Traffic officer Abdallah Tusiime recognized for his dedication to duty during heavy rainstorm

Tusiime was seen in a viral social media video braving heavy rain as he directed traffic at the Mawanda Road-John Babiiha Road intersection in Kampala.

👉 A company has offered him a scholarship to go back to school and study Law as he has always dreamed of.

👉 One of his children will be sponsored until University.

👉 The speaker of parliament has directed that the Traffic Police officer be transferred to the Parliamentary Police Directorate in recognition of his exemplary service.

Dear Employee,

Whatever you are doing, the Lord your God is seeing.

Even when you don't get the right recognition, salary, or benefits, God is seeing.

Even if your direct supervisor doesn't see the great things you do, your hard work will never go in vain.

Just like Tusiime, your time will come when you will get your reward.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance.

I got a rejection email for a job opportunity I badly needed

I gave the job application my best and the least I expected was that they would shortlist me for the first interview.

And guess what? I open the email and the first sentences I read are “Thank you for taking the time to apply for the above position. After careful consideration, we are sorry to advise you that we will not be progressing with your application……”

That day was tough one that I nearly gave up on applying for jobs again.

That was me in the first years of my job search, a single rejection would make me hate the job search journey.

But here is what happened when I changed my mindset.

I started looking at rejection emails as a redirection to another opportunity.

I looked at the rejection email as a notice that I needed to work on my skills and gain more experience.

For some opportunities, I understood that some factors beyond my control wouldn’t let me be shortlisted however qualified I was.

As a believer, I also knew not every opportunity was meant for me, some times God is either preparing something better or is protecting me from some toxic workplaces. His timing is usually the best!

I became positive about the job search process and one rejection would push me to send more applications out.

I don’t apply for one job and put my hopes into that single opportunity, when I receive a rejection, chances are that I have other responses I am waiting for.

One other thing that I did is not to be discouraged from applying to an organization I have gotten a rejection from in the future.

Guess what, the first time I applied to the organization I am currently working for was in 2014 when they advertised for their graduate recruitments. I made it only to the third interview and that was the end for my chances.

In 2020, about 5 years after my past failure, I applied for a senior role in the same organization, and this time, I was their best candidate, and I was offered the job.

No matter the results of every job application, there was always some learning for me and guess what I perfected my CV writing skills every time I was applying for a new job.

It is one of the reasons I now help many professionals craft a winning CV that best represents their skills and experience, including the dynamics of Application tracking system (ATS) compliant CVs.

Never give up in life because of a single rejection.

Be positive, improve yourself every day through learning new skills, and guess what? Your time will come.

One day it is not you who will be looking for the job, but they will be looking for you.

Dear Young Professional,

You will never be this young again.

Now is the perfect time to invest in yourself, before life’s bigger responsibilities come along. Build your skills, expand your knowledge, invest, and grow into the person you want to become.

10-20 years from now, you’ll either look back with pride at what you’re doing today or wish you had started earlier.

Right now, there are opportunities available only because of your age, and those doors will close as time passes. This is your moment to take bold steps, explore new paths, and push boundaries.

Consider this: To apply for the World Bank Young Professionals Programme, you must be under 32 with a completed Master’s degree. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is open to those between 25 and 35. Age limits are real because some opportunities are designed for the young.

While age is just a number, it’s crucial to make the most of your youthful years.

When you’re young, you can take risks without major setbacks. I moved between jobs annually when I was younger, something that would be harder to do now.

Don’t wait for the “perfect moment” because this is the moment. Use your youth to your advantage, take risks, learn from your failures, and grow stronger. You have the time, energy, and endless potential.

As we go through this last quarter of the year, reflect on this message and do something to make your life count.

Andrew has been a Senior Accountant for the last 5 years, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. Based on the company structure, he realizes he won’t move up unless the Head of Finance resigns. He’s applied for external opportunities but hasn’t found the kind of roles or organizations that align with his career goals.

To make matters worse, his salary has been stagnant for years, with only a 2% annual inflation adjustment. Despite this, Andrew has to stay motivated because if he doesn’t, it will affect his performance.

During a mentorship session, we discussed his job search strategy and how to stay motivated when there’s no promotion or salary increase in sight.
Let’s be honest—there comes a time in your career when getting a promotion or a pay raise is difficult, especially in middle-level positions.

Companies are cutting costs, and the job market is more competitive than ever.

But here’s the challenge: even without a promotion or raise, you’re still expected to give your best. Delivering great results is crucial because, let’s face it, companies can always find someone else if you’re not performing. So, how do you stay motivated when you feel stuck with low pay and no growth?

Here are a few tips I shared with him:

👉 Focus on the Bigger Picture: Even if immediate growth isn’t happening, think long-term. The skills and experience you’re gaining now will help you grow in the future. Andrew’s goal is to become a Head of Finance in the next 5 years. He can start building those skills now by observing his supervisor, volunteering for higher-level tasks, or pursuing external certifications or leadership courses to boost his credentials.

👉 Find Purpose in Your Work: Beyond the paycheck, remember your why. Why did you choose this job in the first place? Is it the passion for your field, the company’s mission, or the impact you’re making? For me, working at an organization that supported vulnerable children gave me purpose, even when salary growth was slow. That sense of purpose kept me motivated.

👉 Pursue a Passion Outside of Work: One of my mentors, a senior executive, told me that if you’re only motivated by promotions and pay raises, there will come a time when those things don’t happen as quickly as you’d like. To stay energized, find something outside of work that brings fulfillment. It could be a hobby, community work, or a passion project. Personally, mentorship and coaching give me a sense of satisfaction that complements my day job.

Staying motivated isn’t just about waiting for a promotion or raise. It’s about finding meaning in your work, growing where you are, and diversifying your sources of fulfillment.

How do you stay motivated when you feel stuck? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Imagine this: You wake up feeling energized, ready to tackle the day, only to realize you don’t have access to your office.

You try logging into your computer, but you’re locked out. Your access has been withdrawn.

I’ve seen this happen before.

A restructuring at the company I worked for led to over 60 employees losing their jobs without any notice.

Although they were compensated with two months’ salary after returning company assets, it didn’t help much. Many are still unemployed five years later.

The same organization closed down a year after, leaving another 150 people jobless.

Job loss can happen to anyone.

You’re just a contract clause away from dismissal.

What do you do then? How do you prepare for the unexpected?

We’ll be discussing this in our webinar today.
