📰 PUBLISHED: Race, ethnicity, and technology-facilitated violence: The experience of activists in Chocó, Colombia.

🎙️: Miyerlandy Cabanzo Valencia is a Colombian national and a Cohort 9 Peace Fellow at the Makerere University Rotary Peace Center.

"Digital exclusion is a peace issue. Racist online threats are a peace issue. When activists cannot safely organise, advocate, or speak truth, communities lose the people who fight hardest for justice."

Three things this research calls all of us to do:
✅Expand how we define digital violence to include structural exclusion, not only direct online attacks.
✅Centre the voices and experiences of activists in the Global South when designing digital safety frameworks.
✅Treat internet access and digital literacy as peacebuilding tools, not afterthoughts.

✍️Education, awareness, and the right interventions can minimize the harm of cyberbullying and trolling. - Buddika Harshadewa Amarathunga, a Cohort 11 Peace Fellow at the Makerere University Rotary Peace Center.

Education, awareness, and targeted interventions against cyberbullying and trolling mirror peacebuilding strategies by de-escalating online conflicts, fostering empathy, and resolving disputes non-violently. Just as mediators build dialogue in communities, digital literacy and restorative justice prevent escalation, promoting harmony in virtual spaces vital for societal peace.

What do Sri Lanka, Sudan, Nepal, and Myanmar have in common?

Erik Solheim has worked in all of them. As a former Norwegian Minister of Environment and International Development and Executive Director of UNEP, he's spent decades at the table where peace treaties get made.

He joined 10 Minute Talks with Harshadeva: Peace and Humanity to share what he's learned.

The conversation covers:
✅The link between environmental stress and armed conflict
✅How climate change is reshaping the geography of fragility
✅Lessons from peace processes that actually held
✅What it takes to build peace when the planet is under pressure

This is one of the most grounded conversations on the environment-conflict connection you'll come across.

Human rights are at the core of sustainable peace. Understanding the interplay between these elements is crucial for addressing the root causes of conflict and building equitable societies. Future peace leaders need the knowledge to champion human dignity and promote inclusive governance, ensuring that peace is not just the absence of war, but the presence of justice.

In Papua New Guinea, being accused of sorcery can cost you your life. This is happening now, in real communities, to real people.

Anton Lutz, a Cohort 9 Peace Fellow from the Makerere University Rotary Peace Center, sits down for "10 Minute Talks with Harshadeva: Peace & Humanity," an informative podcast hosted by Buddika Harshadeva Amarathunga, a Cohort 11 Peace Fellow, to talk about his work on the ground in PNG, addressing sorcery accusation-related violence (SARV) through community education, legal literacy, and faith-informed dialogue.

Anton shares what it actually takes to shift communities from fear and violence toward reconciliation.

A few things that stood out:
✅Local leadership is the foundation.
✅Legal responses alone do not work without community trust.
✅Faith and culture are entry points, not barriers.
