Nice sunday our dear oarents and friends
*What is the rationale of closing churches and schools when other major gatherings are open?*
This week I went to a market in Fort Portal called Mugusu. This is a weekly market that attracts over 2000 people each market day. People come from near and far to buy food, animals and animal products.
Surprisingly, there was no sign of a lockdown on this market day. People coming in vehicles unchecked, bodabodas carrying 3-4 people with no face masks. In fact, the only hand washing facility was empty, and there was no one checking body temperature. Only less that 1/4 of the people had face masks and majority wearing them on the chin. Remember, government supplied cloth masks once during the first wave of covid-19 and they are no more. In a market no one can talk of social distance, and people exchange hands on different commodities.
Almost half of the children in the market were children in the school going age. Anti it was schooling that stopped children from going to market, now parents have full participation of children in the market business.
Then I saw a Pentecostal church near the market and a primary school both had been closed until now. Even the pastors fear to get near the church. Several questions I asked myself ofcourse without answers;
1. Where can church people get Covid-19 from that remains safe for market people?
2. How difficult is it for the church to implement Covid SOPs that it is in the market.
3. How can children get Covid-19 from school but can't get it from a market with over 2000 people?
4. Does science still work by research or it shifted to working by imagination?
5. Which scientist still advises president that people can get Covi-19 from a church of 100 people coming from the same locality but they can't get it from a market of over 2000 people from across bourders?
In the middle of the market there is a health facility called Mugusu Health Centre III, at least here handwashing and face masks were emphasised before entry.
