🇺🇬 Hej då, Uganda — Hej Hej Sverige! ✈️🥳 🇸🇪

We were graciously hosted at the Embassy of Sweden in Kampala for a special send-off event for the brilliant students heading to Sweden on the prestigious Svenska institutet (SI) scholarships.

It was an afternoon of inspiration, laughter, fika (of course!) and heartfelt advice as alumni from the Swedish Alumni Network Uganda shared stories, survival tips (yes, Swedes do eat cold sandwiches voluntarily), and what not to say in a sauna 😅🧖‍♂️

To our new students: Sweden may be cold, but your dreams are on fire 🔥
Pack warm socks, embrace the silence, don’t fear the snow and remember, you now belong to a fika-loving, equality-powered, bike-riding, nature-hiking global family!

The Embassy of Sweden in Kampala together with the Swedish Alumni in partnership with the office of the Academic Registrar Office of the Dean of Students and the Students' Guild with pleasure invite you to be part of the Study in Sweden Event which will be hosted at 𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐉𝐉𝐄 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐘 - 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘴 𝙏𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮, 29𝙩𝙝 𝙊𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙧, 2024 from 𝟿.𝟶𝟶𝚊𝚖 𝚝𝚘 𝟹.𝟶𝟶𝚙𝚖.

Sweden, formally the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Nordic country located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. Sweden has 39 universities. There are public universities and several private universities and University Colleges with over 1,000 programmes at Swedish universities to choose from.

You are invited to come and get acquainted with Sweden and its education system.

The Event will give students answers to often asked questions about the programmes, how to apply, entry requirements, when to apply any scholarships, visa, etc

There will be opportunity to interact with Swedish Alumni and the Swedish Embassy officials who will help provide information about Swedish education and consultancy

On Friday, August 16th, about 30 members of the Sweden Alumni Network in Uganda gathered at Four Points by Sheraton, Kampala, for an impactful capacity boost event on Green Technology and Clean Energy. 💡

Facilitated by Climate Hub International and funded by the Svenska institutet , the capacity boost event equipped alumni with the knowledge and leadership skills to advocate for sustainable practices in their communities, organizations, and households. We covered carbon literacy, the sources and impacts of carbon emissions, environmental adaptation and resilience and practical solutions for promoting Green Technology and Clean Energy in Uganda. 🌱

Participants also explored sustainability frameworks through real-world case studies, gaining insights into how to drive environmental sustainability in Uganda. 🌍💚

Special thanks to Ms. Ayekoh Daphine, National Programme Officer for Renewable Energy and Innovation at the Embassy of Sweden in Kampala, for her inspiring remarks. She emphasized the need to manage greenhouse gas emissions, adopt efficient heating systems, and engage in a circular green economy—key to creating green tech jobs, boosting energy security, and ensuring a sustainable future. ⚡🌿

At the event's close, alumni signed the ACT NOW Sustainability Board, pledging to lead and advocate for sustainable solutions. Each received a certificate recognizing their new skills and commitment. 📝🌍

Together, we’re making strides toward a cleaner, greener Uganda! 🌍💪

We are thrilled to share that our Alumni Network was recognized by the Rotary Club Of Kampala City at their recent Recognition Meeting, celebrating the partnerships throughout the Rotary year ending June 30th.

On August 5th, 2023, our Swedish Alumni Network teamed up with the club for a meaningful community outreach in Kifumbira Village. The day was filled with impactful activities, including a medical outreach, boys' mentorship program, Man to Man talks, and pro bono legal services.

We are proud of the positive difference we are making together and look forward to continuing our collaboration for the betterment of our community.

Yesterday, we were delighted to be hosted by the Embassy Embassy of Sweden in Kampala for our annual send-off Fika, a cherished tradition, in honor of the new Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals Awardees thru the Svenska institutet program . As always, Fika with kanelbullar (cinnamon buns) is a must—after all, what's a Fika without those delicious buns? 😋

This event gave us the opportunity to share knowledge put name to face , enjoy great company, and celebrate the exciting journeys ahead for these talented individuals. We had a wonderful time connecting and fostering a sense of community. We wish all the awardees the very best in their future endeavors! 🇸🇪🇺🇬
