After the commercialization of 5G, the Ministry of Science and ICT is looking forward to commercializing 6G technology. The Ministry of Science and ICT has also applied for a feasibility study for the same.

The Ministry of Science and Technology requested the Evaluation Division of Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters for a 6G R & D request. Unlike the development of 5G communication, the Ministry of Information and Communication wants to develop domestic wireless components this time.

The decision to develop a wireless core would lessen its dependence on foreign cores. The Ministry of Information is taking every step possible to ensure that the wireless components get developed. They are also planning on investing a large amount of money to do that. The plan at this time is to invest about KRW 969 billion.

An official spokesperson for the Divison of Innovation said, “If there are no special problems, 5 weeks of technical evaluation and 6 months of progress will proceed on schedule.”

However, this would not be the first-ever 6G initiative. Countries like the US, China, and Europe have already begun their R & D to develop and work on 6G technology. The Ministry of Technology will use high-frequency bands for covering maximum radio wave.

Apart from this, advanced communications technologies such as beamforming and dual connectivity will also be upgraded to the next level. Developing the 6G connection is just another thing on the Ministry’s plate.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has also taken up 14 initiatives in six years, namely super performance, super-station, hyperspace, ultra-precision, ultra-intelligent, and ultra-experience. 6G, when it is developed, can achieve up to 1 Tbps using the 100 kHz to 1 THz frequency band. The Ministry also has a target timeline in mind. They are planning to develop it by 2028.
