"There is a profound truth in the often-cited words attributed to the English novelist Jane Austen: Give a girl an education and introduce her properly into the world.

The deeper message is that education does more than impart knowledge. It equips a young woman with the confidence, skills, and understanding to navigate the world, make informed choices, and build a future in which she can stand with dignity and independence.

At Nkumba University, we believe that education must not only prepare a student to earn a living, it must prepare a young person to become a contributor to society, a leader in their community and an architect of their own future.
And this is why the empowerment of the girl child is not a peripheral conversation for us. It is central to our mission." Prof. Jude Lubega ~ Nkumba University Vice Chancellor.

At the Girl Child Empowerment Conference earlier today, Uganda National Students’ Association President Shillah Ainembabazi noted that dysfunctional families are among the factors contributing to the plight of the girl child.

“We have a generation of men running away from their families,” she said, calling for stronger family responsibility and support systems to safeguard the wellbeing of girls.
