Shalom greetings beloved...
Today's devotion: *Be driven by love.*
_*And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. 2 Corinthians 12:15*_
One thing that will make you succeed in your service of men and God and in your walk with God is if you are driven by love in whatever you do for God or men.
Paul was willing to spend and be spent for the Corinthian brethren because he was constrained by the love of God for them. Not by what he stood to gain or any expected praise from men. ”For the love of Christ constraineth us;”( 2 Corinthians 5:14).
Love is what made God send Jesus to die for our sins. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). Love is what took Jesus to the cross to die for us. “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13).
Anything we do in the service of God or men which is not because of love for God or men does not have value in the sight of God. ”And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God's love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody). Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God's love in me), I gain nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:2-3)(Amp).
Love for God should be our first reason for worshipping, serving, giving and living for God, not benefits. In the same vein, whatever we do towards men in service and blessings to them should be because of the love of God in us, not for earthly benefits or gain.
Love is the greatest virtue we can ever have and without it we do not know God nor can we serve Him. ”And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” (1 Corinthians 13:13), ”He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:8). Whatever you do towards God and men let it be because of love.
