As a school, we provide education for life by imparting practical based skills to our learners while they go through the York experience. In this post, we present to you our lovely chefs in training who have over the past few weeks baked bread, cakes and made pizza. Bravo to these little ones and to those that believe in their potential! The future is bright!

As we welcome back the children from the holiday, we commit to help them reach their God-given destinies. A firm base for a bright future!

Not only is barbecued chicken delicious, it is also a good source of proteins, vitamins, and other nutrients that the body needs. And in that case, P.5 pupils at York are trained to prepare this kind of chicken.
First, they are shown how to marinate the chicken before barbecuing. Marination is a process that starts by carefully selecting the necessary ingredients, which are then crushed and mixed together to create a marinade. The chicken is then soaked in the marinade for 3 hours.

Incase one wants to preserve tomatoes for long, they can be turned to tomato sauce as a culmination of the tomato processing line. This is something we experienced when there was a lockdown on schools in 2020, due to the pandemic. The many tomatoes that were harvested had to be turned into tomato sauce to avoid wastage.

When the tomatoes ripen, each pupil harvests from his/her plants and weighs the tomatoes using a digital scale.
The weights are recorded against the child’s name and at the end of that tomato season the cumulative weights of each child are multiplied by a figure of 1500/=. The money is then paid out to each child as pocket money.
Each time after the tomatoes are weighed, they are shipped to the school kitchen for use.
We do this to equip the children with skills that are not only necessary for them in the future but also while they are at home.
P.6 pupils at York receive training in tomato growing and each child is required to look after four plants.
