Sturthoriet Square
In the heart of the Old Town you'll find the oldest square in Stockholm - Sturthoriet, which has been the main meeting place since the Middle Ages. One part of the square - the western part - has retained its original architectural design and its special, and at times terrifying, history. For example, few people know that the white stones, embedded in the facade of Councillor Schanz's red house, symbolise the memory of the 92 Swedes executed on the square as a result of the 'Bloodbath'. The 18th century Exchange building now houses the Nobel Museum, which commemorates the labours of hundreds of famous people. A visit to the central square is a must on almost any tour plan in Stockholm.

When touring the central part of the city, guides in Stockholm don't overlook the important political building that houses the Swedish parliament. The neoclassical Houses of Parliament were built at the beginning of the last century. Its stately facade has two wings decorated with Corinthian columns and an impressive stucco composition of the national coat of arms above the main entrance. The parliament itself sits in one of its many rooms, which are open to the public. The other side of the building houses a gallery of paintings, sculptures and other artistic creations.

This historic 18th-century building is still the residence of the Swedish royal family. This is where the King of Sweden conducts state functions and holds important official receptions at a high level. The doors of the palace are also open to the public. In addition to the royal apartments, there are numerous other rooms and halls which have been elaborately decorated in rococo style and which symbolise the strength and splendour of the Swedish state. The Three Crowns Museum, located in the palace, displays relics of the great Swedish monarchs and historical details of the palace's construction.

Statue of a Boy Staring at the Moon
This tiny landmark in Stockholm is considered to be the smallest monument in the country. The model for this sculpture was the sculptor Liss Eriksson, who based the work on his own childhood memories. As a young boy, he loved to sit up and stare at the moon on sleepless nights. Thus a 15-centimetre-long statue of a boy made of iron and sandstone appeared. Townspeople and tourists even invented a cute custom of making little clothes, hats and scarves for the boy, and "wrapping" him up in the cold of winter. Some, on the other hand, bring a new outfit and take the old one back as a keepsake.

One of Stockholm's oldest amusement parks is still very popular with locals and visitors alike. It's located right on the coast of the Dyurgarden Peninsula and is already more than 130 years old. During those years, a German entrepreneur rented a plot for the park, on which he installed the first rides. Today, in addition to traditional attractions such as merry-go-rounds, laughing rooms and roller coasters, there are modern Scandinavian-themed attractions such as the Ghost House with trolls and other other otherworldly creatures, a tower simulating free-fall, or the Viking Ship, simulating the rocking on the sea waves.

Globen Arena
The city's sports stadium, designed in an original spherical form, is one of the structures of the Swedish Solar System Project. The idea is that spherical structures depicting the planets of our solar system are being built all over the country. The Globen Arena symbolises the sun. Apart from sports events, concerts and other large-scale events are also held there. The size of the building is impressive - it has a diameter of 110 metres and can even be climbed to its 85-metre height by a special funicular railway.
