Its main prey is capybaras and ungulates such as marsh and white-tailed deer, oysters, bakers and tapirs, but it also attacks birds, monkeys, foxes, snakes and rodents. Jaguar also hunts turtles - its powerful jaws are able to bite their shell. Unlike the cougar, the jaguar willingly and often attacks livestock. The predator swims well and rarely releases its prey, which seeks refuge in the water. He also digs turtle eggs out of the sand on the ocean coast, sometimes throwing himself at sleeping alligators or snatching fish from the water.
