University of Manchester twins with Ukrainian counterpart
The University of Manchester has twinned with the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU) in Western Ukraine to support medical students whose studies have been disrupted by the conflict with Russia.

The support aims to stabilise the pipeline of desperately needed newly qualified doctors in the war-torn country.

While some academics and students from TNMU have joined the Ukrainian defence forces, others are now teaching trauma management to civilians, placing pressure on academic staff numbers.

Manchester will provide academic support and training and will also be sharing teaching and learning materials.

The University is also looking at offering short electives to Ukrainian medics of the future to gain clinical experience in a UK hospital.

The move is one of at least 71 formal partnerships between UK Universities and their Ukrainian counterparts in the war torn country announced by Universities UK this week.

It follows The University of Manchester’s separate announcement of a £5 million package of funding to support displaced students and academics in Ukraine as well as other countries affected by armed conflict.

The March announcement builds on Manchester’s existing programmes, such as the augmented Living Cost Support Fund or specific schemes to assist asylum seeker students.

“This twinning agreement with one of the most progressive universities in the UK is extremely important for the future development and progress of our school. We hope to gain new methodologies of teaching, the modern approaches to research and new experience in the internationalisation of TNMU" Rector of TNMU Professor Mykhaylo Korda

Founded in 1957, TNMU is a tertiary state educational institution, and a center of biomedical research and training.

The university provides high quality professional medical training to domestic and international students.

It currently enrols around 7,000 students, including 2,500 of international students from 56 countries, studying medicine, dentistry, pharmacy nursing, paramedic science and public health as well as and postgraduate studies.

Rector of TNMU Professor Mykhaylo Korda said: “This twinning agreement with one of the most progressive universities in the UK is extremely important for the future development and progress of our school. We hope to gain new methodologies of teaching, the modern approaches to research and new experience in the internationalization of TNMU.”

Vice-Rector for Education at TNMU Professor Arkadiy Shulhai said: "The war has forced us into relying on online classes. Thanks to our twinning with The University of Manchester, we can enhance the clinical study of our future physicians living under martial law.

“It is a privilege and a pleasure to be twinned with The University of Manchester. We hope for a long-term and fruitful collaboration in the fields of education and research.”

Professor Margaret Kingston, Director of Undergraduate Medical Studies at The University of Manchester said: “We are proud to support our Ukrainian colleagues to maintain the delivery of their medical programme.”

Volunteer Center of Ternopil National Medical University named I. Gorbachevsky received a large humanitarian cargo from Italy on June 13, 2022. Doctor Carlo Pedrina (Carlo Pedrina) sent 100 kg of medicine, 50 kg of medical supplies and 115.8 kg of baby food.

In the first month of the beginning of Russia's large-scale military invasion into Ukraine, an Italian doctor handed over 98 boxes of medical supplies, including very important for military hospitals surgical supplies and more.

The second shipment from Carlo Pedrina contained 65 kg of medicines and 45 kg of medical supplies.

It should be noted that this caring man buys everything at his own expense and donates it to our volunteer center. Medications and supplies from the first two loads were immediately distributed for the needs of military hospitals and our defenders. The newly received aid is now being distributed upon requests from military units and medical facilities where defenders are in.

Participation of TNMU Associate Professor in the European Congress of Cardiologists of Cardiac Failure
On May 21-24, 2022, Associate Professor of the Department of Emergency and Emergency Medical Care, Sofia Lipovetska, took part in the European Congress of Cardiologists of Heart Failure in Madrid.
This Congressional program has become a big new niche that continues to fill in so-called gaps in evidence for heart failure treatment. Despite new recommendations for treating heart failure patients in 2021 https://www.escardio.org/.../Acute-and-Chronic-Heart-Failure and COVID-19 restrictions that have halted many studies, this congress was a bright and groundbreaking event.
Presentation of interventions for the treatment of heart failure included advanced forms of cardioresynchronizing therapy, heart rate modulation, timely telemonitoring to prevent decompensation, and early laboratory biomarker and - OMICs RNA for accurate risk stratification.
There have been many innovations in the medical field: the expansion of screenings for long-known means and the emergence of brand new ones with high-evidence levels. Yes, interim results of DEFINE-HF and PRESERVED-HF trawls have been shown that use of SGLT2 inhibitors has its benefits in symptomatic patients regardless of the emission fraction level. Instead of macitentate, an endothelin receptor antagonist used in pulmonary hypertension, received a negative assessment in the SERENADE trial. He did more harm than good to patients with a saved ejection fraction and pulmonary vascular disease.
To reduce the level of decompensation of heart failure and, accordingly, hospitalizations requiring intravenous infusions of diuretic, ESC has officially made it possible to use special furosemide patch-pumps for the subcutaneous the introduction. Being biodegradable, effectiveness, and home use, these devices provide significant advantages over the in/over drugs confirmed in the SUBCUT-HF trial.
According to REDWOOD-HCM Open Label results, the study confirmed the effectiveness of a new cytokinetic - Aficamten in patients with obstructive hypertrophy cardiomyopathy. And for patients with lower ejection fraction and hypotension, Omecamtiv mecarbil is offered, which improves the probability of myocardial performance without reducing AT. According to GALACTIC-HF trawler, it reliably reduced cardiovascular mortality. Unfortunately, due to hypotension and renal dysfunction, the arsenal of our pharmaceuticals is significantly limited, so the use of tropical therapy, namely selective heart myosin activator, has its prospects.
During Congress Sofia Lipovecʹka successfully presented the posternu report.
The European Cardiological Society is one of the first leading scientific communities in the world to express support and solidarity with Ukraine, condemning Russian aggression. During a full-scale war, Russian and Belarusian scientists are forbidden to participate in all scientific events and publications in ESC editions.
During the congress in the virtual case area, the BodyInteract team, who are old partners of TNMU, were presented interesting clinical cases that could be modeled on their own. BodyInteract, a leader in simulation training in the world, has also shown its respect and support for Ukraine during this challenging time (Photo 3 - Silvério de Sousa Mendes, Body Interact CEO).

Flashmob of TNMU "Together to Victory"
Maryana Kryzhanivska
I've been volunteering at the Ternopil humanitarian headquarters (Science center) somewhere since the 10th day of the war, before I went to weave nets in the drama theater.
I am registered in the hygiene department. I engage in help regularly, combined with learning. A "learning zone" has been set up at the humanitarian headquarters.
Duties include :
- issuance of basic necessities hygiene kits according to their needs;
- receiving and sorting help from other countries.
We also collect boxes of hygiene items on the front of our fighters. Tonight everything will be issued and received oblíkovuêmo.
Glory to Ukraine !
Photos from your volunteer work, a short story send Marty Igorivní Rudenko to the email address: rudenko@tdmu. Good luck.
We will be posting photos and brief stories about each of you on our official media platforms. Our wish is to keep for the history of the university and Ukraine the work of all who worked for victory.
