We are once again joining together for a cause close to our hearts — a fundraiser to support the nephew of Ms Kateryna Kaiun, a valued friend of KMMCS and leading specialist at the Department of International and European Law at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy!
Ms Kateryna’s nephew serves in the newly formed 15th detachment of the 424th Battalion of Unmanned Systems, which urgently needs tablets, remote controls, and FPV goggles to carry out their vital missions.
They already purchased three tablets and two remote controls, but more equipment is still needed. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference. To ensure timely help, funds will be transferred to Kateryna as they come in, and all receipts will be shared for full transparency.
Your generosity, whether large or small, means the world. Thank you for standing with us, for caring, and for showing once again the strength and compassion of the KMA alumni and friends network!
Together, we can help protect those who protect us🫂🇺🇦

Remember we told you about our incredible VIS team? Well, they have already returned from Vienna with decisive results!
The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is one of the most prestigious moot courts which yearly unites students from all over the world and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was not an exception!
We are honoured and very proud to announce that this year our VIS team received an honourable mention for the Pieter Sanders Award for the best memoranda on Claimant's side! This puts them in the top 5% of the 400 teams worldwide!
This incredible team consisted of Alisa Zelenko, Myroslava Krysan and Viktoria Mytko, coached by Marianna Antonovych, Hanna Shoiko and Karyna Kryvytska.
The way that the team has gone through has brought crucial results for Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and KMA Moot Court Society is filled with gratitude and pride for this year's Vis Team! Their work was very hard, but it was worth it! We congratulate our team and wish them luck for further achievements, because further is only more!🏆✨

Team from Kyiv-Mohyla Academy brings home the Jessup 2025 Runner-Up Champion Cup! 🏆
We are beyond proud to share the best result Ukraine has ever achieved - the team reached the Final Round of the 2025 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. It is the world’s largest public international law competition that brings together students and legal professionals from around 100 countries.
This year marked the largest edition of the competition as over 800 teams from 106 countries started this journey and 161 teams made it to Washington, DC.
KMA team ranked 4th overall in the prelims, then also winning the advanced rounds against the outstanding teams from Cambodia, Argentina, Hungary, Austria, France, Uzbekistan, and India (2).
Team: Vladyslav Levchuk (Top-20 speaker!), Bohdana Yaruta (Top-100 speaker), Vladyslav Mykhalchenko, Anastasiia Shashkevych (Top-100 speaker)
Coaches: Masha Stolbova, Maksym Dvorovyi, Ketevan Bezhanishvili
The team received immense support from their wonderful sponsors: Elementum Energy, EU Project Pravo-Justice, KLM Air France Ukraine, Prof. Christopher R. Kelley, Ms. Halyna Traversal, Mr. James Temerty (Temerty Foundation) and over 30 individual donors.
Ukrainian persistency and resilience makes history, and our students’ hard work and dedication is just another confirmation of that. Congratulations to the Jessup team 2025 and may their result inspire even more achievements!✨

After some time, Jessup Moot Court finally returns to NaUKMA! And so does the Jessup National Champioship Cup.
Our incredible team of Vladyslav Mykhalchenko, Bohdana Yaruta, Vladyslav Levchuk and Anastasia Shashkevych coached by Masha Stolbova, Maksym Dvorovyi and Ketevan Bezhanishvili are dealing with complicated questions on public international law.
This year's case concerns a dispute between two States - Ambrosia and Rovinia - on the issues of immunity of State officials and State property, implications of sea-level rise and the legitimacy of State's authority. Facts of the case are like a captivating thriller: one needs only recall that Ambrosia's president fell into coma and awoke to find that his country had experienced a revolution. So, our team had a lot to to take in - both legally and factually. Needless to say, they have managed it remarkably on the national level, and are now preparing to shine at the international rounds in Washington DC.
Let’s wish them good luck!

Climate change is here and so is our Telders Moot Court Team to deal with its legal implications.
KMA team is thrilled to dive into the intersectional topic of climate change, which is “both novel and urgent dimension to the competition”.
Our brilliant mooties Sofiia Rubakhina, Anna Maksymchuk and Pavlo Kohut embark on a challenging journey together with their experienced coach and KMA professor Sergiy Petukhov.
This year's case concerns two states Sinq and Oyelle, one submerged island, and lots of greenhouse emissions. Sinq alleges that Oyelle violated the Paris Agreement by failing to adequately reduce emissions and violated UNCLOS by claiming maritime zones around a submerged Sinq island. The case also raises comprehensive questions of territorial integrity, self-determination and human rights obligations. A lot to deal with, right?🌊
That’s why this team is actively preparing for the national rounds. Let's wish them good luck and not to sink like an island under the piles of in-depth legal research.

Let’s open the 2025 season with wonderful welcome to the ICC MCC team! What starts as an interest in criminal law is a path to an international criminal law moot court.
Daryna Korets, Lilia Lakhnech, Myroslava Biron, and Svitlana-Rujuta Lapa are this year’s ICC MCC team, led by their passion into the depths of ICL and coached by Anna Tymoshenko and Mariia Raievska.
Our team is among 100+ other competing in The Hague, home of the International Criminal Court, and tackling a case inspired by real-world issues: Afghanistan, AI-powered weapons, and gender apartheid.
Their situation is about Arrix Vragar, a wealthy CEO who has allegedly helped a violent regime maintain “gender apartheid”— an institutionalized system of gender-based oppression. He did so by deploying AI-powered automatic weapons along the border, designed to kill those attempting to escape. The twist? He acted at the request of another uninvolved state. Tricky, right?
Well, we know the team has something to say about it. What can we say then? May the Justice prevail.👩🏻⚖️
Good luck to the team!

Here we go again: beginning our series of posts dedicated to the '24-25 season teams. Let’s start with Vis Team!
Williem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is the oldest and one of the most prestigious arbitration moot courts, that is held in Vienna. So it's impossible not to make Billy Joel's song Vienna references every time.
This year's case concerns a contract between two companies (one is government-owned) for building a 100 MW green hydrogen plant, initially subject to mediation but later governed by arbitration. After a government change, the Respondent terminated the contract and obtained the Claimant’s counsel letter during a criminal investigation. Key issues include the Tribunal’s jurisdiction, the exclusion of exhibits, and whether the Convention on International Sale of Goods applies or was validly excluded.
Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is proudly represented by Viktoria Mytko, Myroslava Krysan, Alisa Zelenko, Oleksandr Batkin and Ivan Kuleba, who are coached by Karyna Kryvytska, Mariana Antonovych and Hanna Shoiko.
The Team has just submitted their first memo, but their work doesn’t stop here: second memo is on the way! Good luck to our stars.🌟

Get ready to meet Board’25 — our dream team for the year ahead!
First up, we have the President, Anastasiia Shashkevych. She is the ultimate girlboss, known for her excellent work ethic and, of course, her killer smile. It is her 4th year doing moots so in her new role she’ll strive to make the teams’ journey rewarding and fulfilling.
Hanna Shoiko is in charge of Event-Management and never lets a year go by without participating in a private-law moot court. Her partners in event crimes Vladyslav Levchuk, Karina Kryvytska, and Myroslava Biron do know the simple truth - the more chats you have the better the event is.
The Public Communications Department is led by Daryna Korets, so yes, Daryna has already reviewed this post before anyone else could.
Alongside Yuliia Lazar, Arsen Seletskyi, Viktoriia Mytko, Bohdana Yaruta, Svitlana Lapa, Viktoriia Tkachenko, Karina Vardanian, and Valeriia Honcharuk, this team is behind every post you see — crafting the magic of words and visuals on our socials.
Vladyslav Mykhalchenko, the person who speaks with every team personally, serves as the Vice-President of Internal Communications. Together with Lilia Lakhnesh, they transform the Society into more than just a group of mooties—it’s a family where no message goes unnoticed.
Finally, Oleksandr Batkhin and Alisa Zelenko know how to do it all and are definitely pros in Fundraising. They’ll ensure that teams and Society have capacity and resources to perform at their best.
Congrats to the entire team! Here’s to an exciting journey ahead! 🎉

All the mooties gathered in Colosseum — the ‘24-25 season has officially started!
VIS, Jessup, ICC, Nuremberdg, FDI and other — the new faces learned about the moot courts.
The Kahoot with last years’ fun facts got the competitive spirit, and the speeches from the teams reminded us of how the hard work pays off.
As the evening came to a close, the energy in the Colosseum was electric — new beginnings, shared ambitions, and the thrill filled the air.
With the '24-'25 season now in full swing, we’re excited to see what heights this year’s mooties will reach. Let the challenges begin!
