This is a book many Ukrainians know from childhood—we all grew up with these famous stories. In his foreword (which is translated and included in our edition), Franko explains that he drew inspiration from folk tales of different nations and reshaped them in a distinctly Ukrainian way—through our traditions, humor, and mentality.

And it’s not only for kids: adults will enjoy it too, because the stories contain plenty of irony, satire, and surprisingly sharp observations about life.
