Modernizing master programs to support forest sector transformation towards Ukraine’s post-war green rebuilding, № 101179074 — ForestPost — ERASMUS-EDU-2024-CBHE Considering the significant losses in the forest sector caused by Russia-Ukraine war and ongoing debates on green rebuilding of Ukraine, there is a clear need of a new generation of well-trained professionals able to successfully transfor

m the forest sector applying the principle “built better than it was”. The ForestPost project aims to develop the synergy between Ukrainian HEIs and forest sector in joint contribution to the green post-war rebuilding of Ukraine through the implementation of new study courses based on the dual education approach, considering the most pressing global and national challenges, forest sector needs, and focusing on acquisition of green skills by students. The consortium of 3 Ukrainian, 3 EU HEIs will develop innovative approach to stimulate the green skills acquisition through development and implementation of 12 new courses grouped into 3 study blocks: a) “Circular Forest-based Economics and Business” (representing economic and social pillar of sustainability) b) “Forests and Climate Changes” (representing environmental pillar of sustainability), c) “Wooden Technologies for Green Rebuilding of Ukraine” (representing social and technological aspects). The project applies and further develops the dual education approach in higher education forestry studies, which combines teaching in classrooms with real work experience. ForestPost project will provide the following intellectual outputs: White paper "Contribution of forest-based education to green Ukraine's rebuilding"; Guidelines "Dual education approach and modern didactic tools for improving the quality of forest-based education"; 12 study courses at 3 Ukrainian HEIs aimed at acquisition of green skills by students; 36 episodes of podcast “Eco-innovations for green rebuilding of forest sector”; 3 Centers for Sustainability Communications; 3 proceedings of conferences. On 20 August 2026, the “Presentation of Master’s Courses Developed within the Erasmus+ ForestPost Project” seminar brought together course developers, representatives of partner universities and stakeholders interested in the future of forestry education in Ukraine.

Within ForestPost, 12 new master’s-level courses have been developed to equip future professionals with the knowledge and practical skills needed for Ukraine’s forest sector transformation and post-war green recovery. The courses cover sustainable forest management, climate-smart silviculture, landscape fires, ecosystem services, forest monitoring, circular bioeconomy, sustainable business models, green construction, wood processing, environmental protection and green project management.

A strong focus is placed on practice-oriented and project-based learning, dual education, real-life cases, digital technologies and cooperation with industry. The goal is clear: to prepare a new generation of professionals who will not only work in the modern forest sector but also contribute to shaping its future. 🌍🌲

The seminar marked an important step in bringing Ukrainian forestry education closer to European approaches and strengthening the human capital needed for Ukraine’s green post-war recovery and sustainable forest sector development.

Join the ForestPost Seminar: Presentation of New Master's Courses!

How can master's education help shape the future of the forest sector?
On 20 August 2026, from 11:00 to 13:30 EET, we invite you to the seminar "Presentation of Master's Courses Developed within the Erasmus+ ForestPost Project"

During the event, we will present a new portfolio of master's courses being developed within the Erasmus+ ForestPost project. These courses are designed to support the modernization of forestry education, introduce innovative teaching approaches, strengthen cooperation with European universities, and contribute to Ukraine's post-war green recovery.
Participants will discover the objectives, structure, and expected learning outcomes of the courses, covering topics such as:
- Sustainable Forest Management
- Forest Ecosystem Services
- Circular Bioeconomy
- Digital Technologies in Forestry
- Climate Resilience
…and many other key areas shaping the future of the forest sector.

The seminar is open to academic staff, master's students, forestry professionals, employers, and everyone interested in modern forestry education.

Another important milestone of the ForestPost project!

The second Center for Sustainability Communications has officially started its work at the State Biotechnological University.

The Center was established to promote sustainability values and best practices, strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and the forestry sector, popularize forestry education, raise public awareness of the European Green Deal, and contribute to the organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, and other scientific and educational events.

Although the Center has only recently been launched, it is already demonstrating its value. With its information and technical support, several important events have been successfully organized, including the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference "Current State and Prospects for the Development of Forestry, Landscape Architecture and Land Management", as well as a series of guest lectures on forest pests, FSC forest certification, forest inventory and planning, and biodiversity conservation.

For Ukraine, where sustainable recovery and modernization of the forestry sector have become national priorities, such initiatives are more than educational platforms. They create spaces for dialogue, knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration—bringing together academia, practitioners, students, and policymakers to shape a greener and more resilient future.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Center for Sustainability Communication at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), established within the framework of the ForestPost project.

The Center aims to strengthen sustainability communication by connecting research, education, and society. It will serve as a platform for developing communication skills, promoting evidence-based environmental awareness, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, and engaging students, researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders in addressing today's sustainability challenges.

As part of the ForestPost project, the Center will contribute to building capacities in science communication, fostering knowledge exchange, and promoting sustainable forest management and environmental responsibility.
We look forward to sharing our activities, educational initiatives, events, and collaborations with our growing community.

Looking back at the ForestPost Spring School 2026 in Valladolid, Spain 🇪🇸🌿

The Spring School brought together students, researchers, and project partners to exchange knowledge, explore innovative approaches in forestry, and strengthen international collaboration.

It was an inspiring opportunity to learn from experts, share ideas, and build lasting professional connections within the ForestPost Project.

Closing the 2025-2026 academic year, the ForestPost Consortium Management Board meeting reviewed key results achieved within the project and the overall progress of its implementation.

A total of 36 international mobilities dedicated to course development and exchange of best practices were successfully implemented in the spring semester. These activities significantly contributed to curriculum modernization and strengthened international academic cooperation.

Ukrainian staff members participated in several key mobility visits, including: Transilvania University of Brașov (Romania) – 30 March-03 April 2026, University of Valladolid (Spain) – 04-08 May 2026, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (Germany) – April 20-24, 2026; May 18-22, 2026; June 22-26, 2026.

The mobility activities included focused working sessions on course development, review of course content, learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessment approaches. Participants also engaged in field-based learning activities covering wildfire management, green construction approaches, and forest measurement methodologies, further strengthening practical competencies and applied knowledge exchange.

12 new courses are expected to be piloted in Ukrainian universities in autumn 2026: “Circular Bioeconomy in the Forest Sector”, “Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility of Business”, “Business Models for Sustainable Development”, “Circular Economy Principles in Furniture Manufacturing”, “Recreation Management”, “Landscape Fires: Science, Policy and Management”, “Forest Phytomass Estimation by Ground and Remote Methods”, “Modern Green Constructions”, “Close-to-Nature and Climate-Smart Silviculture”, “Forest Ecosystem Services”, “Development and Management of Green Projects in the Forest Sector”, “Environmental Protection: Integrated Technologies for Sustainable Development”.

🌲 The ForestPost project under the Erasmus+ Programme continues its active international collaboration!

This week, representatives of Ukrainian partner universities are visiting Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development to work together with German colleagues on the development of new Master’s degree courses in Forestry. Current activities are focused on the preparation and improvement of two courses: Forest Natural and Climate Smart Silviculture and Forest Ecosystem Services. The visit also provides an opportunity to exchange academic experience and strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and Germany.

🌲 Spring School 2026 — ForestPost Project | Valladolid, Spain

Representatives of the Educational and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management of National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine had the privilege of participating in the Spring School 2026 (4–8 May), hosted by the School of Agricultural, Food, and Forestry Engineering (ETSIIAA) at the University of Valladolid (UVa) on the "La Yutera" Campus in Palencia.

The event was organised within the international Erasmus+ CBHE project ForestPost — "Modernisation of Master Programmes to Support the Transformation of the Forest Sector towards Ukraine's Post-War Green Rebuilding" (GA № 101179074), with logistical support from the University Institute for Research in Sustainable Forest Management (iuFOR).

The project brings together universities, businesses, and the forestry sector to modernise master's programmes, develop green competences, and strengthen dual education frameworks in support of Ukraine's green post-war recovery.

The week-long programme was rich and interdisciplinary, combining academic seminars on modern didactic methods, problem-based learning, and dual education with hands-on field excursions across Castile and León:
🌳 Mediterranean forests and forestry — Valladolid region
🔥 Wildfire management and post-fire landscape restoration — Zamora / Portugal border
🏗️ Green construction and the wood-based bioeconomy — CESEFOR, Soria
🛰️ Forest phytomass estimation using ground-based and remote sensing methods — Valdepoza, Saldaña

Alongside our colleagues from Ukrainian National Forestry University (Lviv) and SBTU (Kharkiv), and in close collaboration with partners from UVa (Spain), Transilvania University of Brasov (Romania), and Fachhochschule Eberswalde (Germany), we exchanged academic expertise, explored pedagogical innovation in higher forestry education, and reflected on how forest-based curricula can be reshaped to meet the challenges ahead.

Sincere thanks to the organisers, the ForestPost consortium, and all participants for an inspiring week of learning, dialogue, and new professional connections, and for the warm Spanish hospitality that made it unforgettable.

📢 Call for Experts | ForestPost Project
The ForestPost project is looking for three qualified experts to evaluate course syllabi and training materials developed within the project.

🌲 About the Evaluation
Teaching tandems are currently developing 12 new courses organized into three thematic blocks:
🔹 Circular Forest-Based Economics and Business
🔹 Forests and Climate Change
🔹 Wood Technologies for Green Rebuilding of Ukraine
Each selected expert will evaluate the courses within one thematic block aligned with their field of expertise. The work includes reviewing course syllabi and training materials and preparing peer review reports with constructive feedback and practical recommendations to enhance the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of the content.

👤 Expert Profile
We welcome applications from candidates who meet the following criteria:
✔ Proven expertise in circular economy and business, forests and climate change, or wood technologies
✔ Experience in designing and developing courses for higher education institutions (HEIs)
✔ Fluency in English (knowledge of Ukrainian is an asset)

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the online seminar “Dual education approach and modern didactic tools for improving the quality of forest-based education”, which will take place on April 27, 2026, from 16:00 to 17:45 (EET).

The event is organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ project ForestPost and aims to discuss modern approaches to the implementation of dual education, as well as innovative didactic tools to improve the quality of training specialists in the forest sector in the context of Ukraine’s post-war recovery.

The program features presentations by leading Ukrainian and international experts.
