Recently, together with the students of the Summer School Program, we had the opportunity to visit the Museum-Memorial of Victims of Occupation Regimes – the Prison on Lontskoho.
This former detention center in Lviv was primarily used throughout the 20th century as a political prison by both Soviet and N**i regimes. Today, the museum also serves as the main office of the Center for Research on the Liberation Movement

This is yet another chapter in the history of Ukraine—complex, challenging, and of immense importance to the Ukrainian nation.

"Ukrainian Political Prisoners" by Myroslav Marynovych

Thank you for the enlightening lecture! Although a difficult topic, our students were pleased to learn about those who stood in the face of adversity and remained proud of their Ukrainian heritage 🌻

📢We wrapped up the first week of our program with a visit to the beautiful town of Zhovkva - a museum town, a royal town. Today, it holds the status of a State Historical and Architectural Reserve, encompassing around 55 architectural monuments, including several of international significance. The excursion through Zhovkva took us to an “ideal Renaissance town.”

The historic Market Square ensemble, the 16th-century castle, charming monasteries, and the 17th-century St. Lawrence Church, are among the most remarkable landmarks of the region and are well worth a visit.

Also we have visited a Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Basilian Monastery. Here, we admired a unique mural featuring angels dressed in traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts (vyshyvankas). The artwork was created by Julian Butsmanyuk, a Sich
Rifleman and renowned Ukrainian artist. Overall, the compact historic center of Zhovkva contains around fifty monuments of local, national, and even international importance, making it one of the most remarkable heritage destinations in Western Ukraine.

Our next stop was Krekhiv Monastery of St. Nicholas (17th–18th centuries) is renowned for its miraculous icons and has long been one of the oldest pilgrimage destinations in Ukraine. @топові прихильники

Only 2️⃣ days!!

While in the center, you have to stop by Lviv's very own chocolate factory "Lviv Handmade Chocolates" (Львівська Майстерня Шоколаду). With exquisite sweets and some truly W***y Wonka-style staircases inside the storefront, you'd be remiss to not visit this gem of our city. And we can assure you their hot chocolate is nothing like you've tasted outside of Ukraine 😋

3️⃣ days to go!

Just a short bus ride from the city center, Lychakiv Cemetery is a must-see in Lviv. One could feasibly spend hours in quiet contemplation, wandering the secluded groves and appreciating the masterful sculptures. The grounds also serve as a final resting place for many notable Ukrainian artists and poets, pictured here are Ivan Franko (2), Myroslav Skoryk (3) and Volodymyr Ivasyuk (4).

Neighboring the Cemetery, you will find the Field of Mars, a solemn place to mourn and pay respects to the brave defenders who lost their lives during the full-scale invasion 🌻☦🌻

4️⃣! For you first-time visitors, let us introduce you to our stunning neighbor–Stryiskyi park 😍

Plans for the park were authored by Austrian landscape designer Arnold Röhrig in the 1870s and feature three main sections: the lower zone, the park area, and the upper terrace. Spanning 56 hectares (~138 acres), Stryiskyi is full of nature, art, restaurants, and other attractions.
You can wonder the paths here for hours! And we are so blessed to have such a beautiful space right at a doorstep ☺️
