The body length of this bird is from 35 to 40 cm, wings 22-24.5 cm. The tail is short, its length is almost twice the length of the wings. The overall color tone is gray, but the feathers of the body have light tips, which gives the impression of scaly color. Around the eyes, on the forehead, lower abdomen and tail, the color is light gray, almost white. The legs are black. There is no sexual dimorphism in the color.
