HI folks

Сегодня поговорим о money. Хорошая тема, согласитесь, приятная). В определенной стране они - currency - dollars, pounds, euros... А ещё они - бабки, бабосики, бабло - dough, dibs, cash, bucks ))

She's got to get out of town, that takes dough.
Ей надо уехать из города, нужны деньги.

I got dibs on that ring.
Я получу бабки за это кольцо.

The only thing people in that world respond to is flash and cash.
Люди реагируют на две вещи -понты и бабки.

It's how I' m making the bog bucks.
Вот так я гребу бабло.

Как это не прискорбно, но на деревьях денежки не растут.
Их надобно to earn, значит - go to work.

Для некоторых making money - it's like crack - делать бабки , это как наркотик. Как правило , эти люди - rich. Ну а некоторые - еле сводят концы с концами - make ends.

В любом случае работают не за бесплатно - получают зарплату - wage, salary, paycheck.

У тебя работа для больших мальчиков и зарплата для больших мальчиков.
You got a big boy job and a big boy paycheck.

Там зарплата лучше в любом случае.
It's a better salary anyway.

Народу нужна еда, работа и достойная зарплата.
The people need bread, jobs and a decent wage.

Double vodka

A guy came into a bar one day and said to the barman "Give me six double vodka." The barman says "Wow! you must have had one really bad day." "Yes, I've just found out my older brother is gay." The next day the same guy came into the bar and asked for the same drinks. When the bartender asked what the problem was today the answer came back, "I've just found out that my younger brother is gay too!" On the third day the guy came into the bar and ordered another six double vodkas. The bartender said "WOW! Doesn't anybody in your family like women?" "Yeah, my wife..."

"Who's there? Who's in this room?"

Washburn went quietly to the bed. He did not want to make a sudden noise or movement that could cause his patient new psychological damage. The next few minutes would be as important as the surgery that he had performed on the man many times during the past month.

"A friend," he said softly. "You speak English. I thought you would. How do you feel?"

"I'm not sure."

"You were brought here, to the French island of Ile de Port Noir, by fishermen who found you in the Mediterranean. You'd been shot, many times. I'm a doctor - your doctor. My name is Geoffrey Washburn. What's yours?"

The stranger was silent for a minute. Then he turned and looked into the doctor's eyes. "I don't know," he said.

Weeks passed.

"It will take time. Don't fight it."

"You're drunk," his patient said.

"I usually am," Washburn agreed. "That's why I lost my job in a London hospital and came here. But I'm a good doctor, and I saved your life. I've watched you, and I've listened to you. You speak English, French, and an Asian language - I don't know which one. You've been violent - at times I've had to tie you to the bed to protect your wounds. And your face really interests me."

"Tell me."

"It's been changed. You've had surgery to every part of it - eyes, nose, chin. And your hair is not your natural color."

The stranger thought about this. "But why?" he said. "Think! What are you? What were you?"
