Open World Ukraine

The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services (NMDVS) was honored to welcome a delegation of Ukrainian parliamentarians to New Mexico as part of an international exchange focused on strengthening support systems for veterans.

NMDVS Cabinet Secretary Jamison Herrera met with the group during their visit, hosted by Global Santa Fe, to share insights on how New Mexico supports those who have served. Discussions centered on advancing veteran welfare and ensuring long-term success through employment opportunities, access to medical and behavioral health support systems.

The visit is part of a program sponsored by the Congressional Office for International Leadership, bringing leaders from Ukraine to the United States to explore “Veterans Workforce Empowerment.” The delegation is working to strengthen strategies that help veterans successfully transition to civilian life, while building systems that support workforce integration and long-term stability.

NMDVS is proud to be part of this important dialogue, sharing best practices and learning alongside international partners committed to improving the lives of veterans and their families.

Учасники провели зустрічі з керівництвом штату, зокрема із Секретарем у справах ветеранів Джеймісоном Еррерою, а також із бригадними генералами Пією Ромеро та Нейтом Карпером з Національної гвардії Нью-Мексико, обговорюючи політики підтримки працевлаштування та переходу ветеранів до цивільного життя. Програма включала зустрічі з Департаментом праці, VETSinTech та Ветеранською торговою палатою, зосереджені на кар’єрних можливостях і підприємництві.
Делегати також відвідали Університет Нью-Мексико, де ознайомилися з програмами підтримки ветеранів, зокрема Veterans Upward Bound, та поспілкувалися з місцевими ветеранами. Окрему увагу було приділено візитам до Santa Fe Vet Center та Національної гвардії, де обговорювали питання ментального здоров’я та реінтеграції.

The Open World delegation focused on veterans workplace empowerment has successfully completed its program in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Participants engaged with state leadership, including Secretary Jamison Herrera, as well as Brigadier Generals Pia G. Romero and Nate Carper of the New Mexico National Guard, to explore policies supporting veterans’ employment and transition. The program featured meetings with the Department of Workforce Solutions, VETSinTech, and the Veterans Chamber of Commerce, focusing on career pathways, entrepreneurship, and workforce integration.
Delegates also visited educational institutions such as the University of New Mexico–Taos, learning about programs like Veterans Upward Bound, and met with local veterans. Additional visits included the Santa Fe Vet Center and National Guard leadership, highlighting mental health support and community-based reintegration.

Делегація програми «Відкритий світ», зосереджена на освітніх партнерствах для реінтеграції ветеранів, завершила програму в Сан-Хосе, Каліфорнія.

Учасники провели зустрічі з керівництвом округу Санта-Клара, організаціями та експертами, обговорюючи підтримку ветеранів, зокрема працевлаштування, житло та подолання травми. Делегати також відвідали засідання Суду у справах ветеранів і Медичний центр VA в Менло-Парку.

У Стенфорді відбулися зустрічі з професором Майклом Макфолом та Роуз Геттемюллер (CISAC, Hoover Fellow, колишня заступниця Генерального секретаря НАТО), а також візит до Hoover Institution.

Візити до Foothill College та San José City College були присвячені освітнім можливостям і підтримці ветеранів. Програма також включала церемонію підняття українського прапора та зустрічі з партнерами.

The Open World delegation on educational partnerships for veteran reintegration has completed its program in San Jose, California.

Participants met with Santa Clara County leadership County of Santa Clara, California, veteran service providers, and community organizations to explore approaches to veteran support, including employment, housing, and trauma response. The program also included observing Veterans Treatment Court and a visit to the VA Medical Center in Menlo Park.

At Stanford University, the delegation met with Professor Michael McFaul and Rose Gottemoeller (CISAC, Hoover Fellow, former Deputy Secretary General of NATO), and visited the Hoover Institution.

Visits to Foothill College and San José City College highlighted educational pathways and support services for veterans. The program also featured a Ukrainian Flag Raising Ceremony and engagement with local partners UNWLA Branch 107 Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco
