Dear Friends,
It is with great sadness that we learned of the invasion of Ukraine and the horrendous suffering and destruction of the country and its people. All of us at IYT share great sympathy for those who have lost their loved ones. Many of our Russian schools have contacted us and told us that they are deeply disturbed and horrified by the actions of Vladimir Putin and that they feel a solidarity with their Ukrainian brothers and bear no ill will to the Ukrainian people. They strongly condemn Putin’s aggression and admit no part in its inception and want to see an immediate end to all hostilities.
As often happens, it is the hard working people of a nation that get caught up in the middle of these situations. These are the actions of just one man who has caused so much destruction and we believe that honest ordinary Russians cannot be held responsible for the actions that Putin has taken. Russian citizens are unable to influence the situation and are being arrested if they protest.
IYT is a family run business and we have always called our schools “partner schools” because we believe in working together as one global boating family to improve the lives of sailors and boaters throughout the world. When something like this happens, we all feel great sympathy for the school owners, instructors, employees and families as they try to make a living to feed, protect and educate their loved ones. We must strive to help each other as much as we can through this terrible ordeal.
However, effective immediately, no IYT schools in Russia or Belarus will be able to operate as IYT schools.
IYT’s bank (Bank of Montreal) has confirmed that all wire transfers and credit card transaction’s are now blocked. As of Feb 28th, all UPS shipments to Russia, Belarus and Ukraine have been suspended until further notice so it is not possible for us to ship IYT certificates.
IYT will strive to help the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and will do everything in its power to help schools that survive this aggression to get back to operating again as soon as possible. We know this may take some time but we are here to support our partner schools through this hardship.
We look forward to the end of all hostilities so that the world can return to normal as soon as possible.
