🌏 On 25 August, an online discussion was held on geopolitical developments in Southeast Asia and Ukraine’s place in a changing global order.
The speaker was Danilo Lorenzo S. Delos Santos, PhD Candidate in International Politics at the University of Pécs (Hungary), a researcher specializing in geopolitics, security, economics, innovation, and public policy.
The discussion was moderated by EEYES Fellow Lana Oseledtseva (Lana🦢).
During the discussion, the following topics were addressed:
— geopolitical competition in Southeast Asia and the situation in the South China Sea;
— the impact of the war in Ukraine on the security strategies of countries in the region;
— the Philippines’ experience in its relations with China and possible lessons for Ukraine;
— economic interdependence, cybersecurity, and the protection of digital infrastructure;
— Ukraine–Philippines relations;
— the future of the international order, sovereignty, and security.
Particular attention was paid to the lessons Ukraine can draw from the experience of Southeast Asian countries and how Ukraine’s own experience can be relevant to the region.
