Uzhhorod, Russian Uzhgorod, Czech Užhorod, Hungarian Ungvár, city, western Ukraine. It is situated along the Uzh River just east of the Slovak border. For centuries Uzhhorod has been an important cultural, educational, religious, and economic centre of the Carpathian Mountains region. It was founded in the 8th or 9th century and has long had commercial and military significance. It was under Hungarian control from the 11th to the late 17th century, when it became a possession of the Austrian Habsburgs. Nevertheless, Hungarian influence remained strong. It passed to Czechoslovakia in 1919, to Hungary in 1938, and to the Soviet Union during World War II. Its population is predominantly Ukrainian, with significant numbers of Russians and Hungarians. The city’s industries have included the manufacture of machine tools, furniture, and foodstuffs.

Do you know the Unique tradition of Ukrainian wedding ?
The traditions of Ukrainian wedding have formed for centuries. In the course of time, some of them have changed as people, their preferences, and lifestyle change with time. Yet main customs of celebrations have gone through years and even centuries and remained the same. For instance, big rich weddings are still held in many regions.
Until quite recently, the celebration of the wedding lasted almost the whole week:
Friday – the beginning of the wedding
Saturday – serving karavai (round loaf bread)
Sunday – church wedding
Monday – Wednesday – festive drinking and eating
Thursday – coming home

If you’ve spent time in other Ukrainian regions, Lviv will come as a shock. Mysterious and architecturally lovely, this Unesco-listed city is the country’s least Soviet and exudes the same authentic Central European charm as pretourism Prague or Kraków once did. Its quaint cobbles, bean-perfumed coffeehouses and rattling trams are a continent away from the Soviet brutalism of the east. It’s also a place where the candle of Ukrainian national identity burns brightest and where Russian is definitely a minority language.

Kharkiv is a modern city with a 1.5 million population. It was founded in 1654, and is a large industrial, scientific, educational, commercial and transport center of Ukraine.
Amazing is the city in its beauty, monuments and architectural contrasts, with the marvelously interwoven past and present: the aristocratic manors of the nobility, Modern Era buildings, constructivist buildings of 1920s, Stalinist neoclassical structures form the unique architectural style of Kharkiv. The «Seven Wonders of Kharkiv» are the Monument to the Famous Ukrainian Poet Taras Shevchenko, the Mirror Stream fountain (the architectural landmark of the city), the Pokrovsky Cathedral of Kharkiv Pokrovsky Monastery, the Annunciation Cathedral, the Dormition Cathedral, the Derzhprom State Committee for Industrial Policy (Building of State Industry) and the residential building with a spire.

Kyiv is one of the biggest European cities (the seventh position in top-list). It is the major transport, cultural, business and religious centre of Ukraine and all Europe. Historically the capital of Kievan Rus and Ukrainian People’s Republic, now Kyiv is the capital of independent Ukraine – the city with modern developped infrastructure, beautiful and diverse architecture, rich and ancient culture. Nowadays and in the past, Kyiv is traditionally claimed as the greenest city in the world – there are a lot of parks, squares, gardens and forests in the city, nearly all streets are drowned in the green of Kyiv’s symbolic trees – chestnuts as well as many other trees. “Volodymyr Hill” park was the place of inspiration for many famous Ukrainian and world poets, writers, artists and musicians – Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Mikhail Bulgakov, Vladimir Mayakovskiy and many others. City’s main street – Khreschatyk is the widest European central street and very popular place for tourists from all over the world.
