PART OF SPEECH

NOUN, KINDS OF NOUN, COMMON, PROPER, ABSTRACT, MATERIAL, COUNTABLE, COLLECTIVE NOUN

NOUN
A noun is a naming word: - name of a person, animal, thing, and the place is called noun
e.g. Ram, Cow, Car, and Delhi

KINDS OF NOUN

COMMON NOUN
It is the word which shows the whole class of people, animals, things & places.
The name is given in common to all persons, animals, things, place e.g. Boy, cow, pen, city, etc.
The noun that refers to both males & females.
E.g. child, lawyer, speaker, principle, singer, dancer, etc.
(The 1st letter is always small, common means shared by all)

PROPER NOUN
It is the name of a particular person, thing & place e.g. Ram, Grange, Agra
(The 1st letter I always capital)

ABSTRACT NOUN
It is the name of a quality feeling, idea, which can’t be touched but can only be felt e.g. darkness, fear, freedom, death, fragrance, art, science, grammar, music, chemistry, etc.

MATERIAL NOUN
It is the name of material from which different things can be made e.g. milk, gold, wood.

COUNTABLE NOUN
It is a noun which can be counted e.g. one pen, two girls, three cows
Uncountable Noun is a noun that cannot be counted e.g. milk, sugar, ink.

COLLECTIVE NOUN
It is a group of people, animals or things.
e.g. crowd, herd, fleet, galaxy, etc.

PART OF SPEECH

The classification of words according to their function and use, is called Part of Speech.
According to ancient Grammarians “Parts of Speech” has divided into eight parts, But Modern Grammarians has divided it into two part after research which seems very scientific and logical.

1. Form Classes:
(i) Noun
(ii) Adjective
(iii) Verb
(iv) Adverb

2. Structural Words:
(i) Pronoun
(ii) Preposition
(iii) Conjunction
(iv) Interjection
(v) Determiners

Our next vocabulary is GET.
Now, let’s take a look at some common meanings of get:

1) Acquire
This meaning can be gotten if it’s used before a noun.
Acquire itself can mean a few things: to buy, to gain, to obtain, to receive
Here are some examples of this:
• Get a job
• Get a message
• Get a pet
• Get a present
• Get a result

2) Become
Get will have this meaning if it’s used before an adjective.
Some examples of this are:
• Get angry
• Get bored
• Get lost
• Get married
• Get tired

3) Bring
When you want people to bring you something, you can use get and it will have this meaning.
For example, a polite way of asking someone to give you your phone would be could you get my phone for me, please?

4) Reach
You can use get to mean to reach or arrive at a destination.
Here are a few examples:
I’ll call you when I get to the airport.
I got home late at night.
He got to the city early in the morning.

Let’s further explain each of the four uses of TAKE

1. CONSUME
This is mostly used when we talk about medicine. For example, my grandparents take their pills two times a day.

2. RELAX
These are some collocations take that mean to relax. These are:
• Take a break
• Take a holiday
• Take a rest
• Take time off
The difference between them is that the first and second one can mean to relax for a short time, while the other two can last for days, weeks or even years.

3. TRAVEL
If you need to get somewhere, you can walk there or take a train, a bus or a plane.

4. WASHING
When you’re dirty or tired in the morning, taking a shower or a bath can give you energy, as well as make you clean.
