Iguana

The iguana is cold-blooded, so it cannot control its body temperature on its own, but depends on external sources. That is why they can so often be seen basking in the sun or resting in the cool shade of trees.

Adults of the green iguana can reach two meters in size, however, most of the body will be occupied by the tail. Despite its name, the color of the iguana is not necessarily green, but varies depending on the halo of habitat and can be blue, purple, red, pink and even orange.

There are two species of iguanas in Mexico: the common iguana or green iguana (Iguana Iguana) and the black iguana (Ctenosaura Pectinata).

Today, in some parts of Mexico, the iguana is an integral part of cultural heritage and self-identification. For example, in Oaxaca, you can often hear, "If you eat iguana meat, you are a true resident of Oaxaca."

The Maya Indians checked that the universe is located inside a giant house that supports four iguanas. It is also known that in the later period of May the iguana was sacrificed to the gods.

The iguana comes from the iwana in the language of the Taino tribes that inhabited the Antilles until the arrival of the Spaniards. The Spaniards began to call the lizard in their own way - the iguana.
