We are happy to announce that the Invisible University for Ukraine (IUFU), a certificate program (with ECTS credits), is inviting applications for the 2025 Spring Semester for students from Ukrainian universities, whether residing in Ukraine or abroad, whose studies have been affected by the war.
📌 What is the Invisible University for Ukraine (IUFU)?
IUFU is a transnational solidarity program that offers an intensive learning experience on the role of Ukraine in changing European and global contexts. Our goal is to prepare students for deeper integration into international academia. The program is designed in a hybrid format and is delivered by an international faculty.
Participation is free of charge.
The program is implemented by Central European University (Budapest site), in cooperation with Imre Kertész Kolleg, University of Jena, as well as other Ukrainian (Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Ukrainian Catholic University) and global university partners and research institutions (such as the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in Lviv). The program is supported by the Open Society University Network (OSUN) and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), and the Mott Foundation (USA).
📌 What does the 2025 Spring Semester hold?
The Spring Semester offers eight online courses:
🔹Elemental Warfare. From Colonial Legacies to Decolonial Resistance & Solidarity
🔸Poland-Ukraine-Belarus-Lithuania: Polycentric Narratives and Legacies
🔹Migrations and Diversity in Modern East-Central Europe
🔸Rule of Law Ideals: Legal Reforms in Ukraine amidst War and Peace
🔹 Semi-periphery and Borderlands in the European integration: Rethinking Balkans for Ukraine
🔸Research Methods for the Social Sciences
In addition, we offer two courses (“Ukraine: Reexamining Decolonization Paradigm” and “Calculation and Contingency in the Russo-Ukrainian War: Exploration of Recent History”) for the students of the Invisible Graduate School and for motivated MA and advanced BA students. The call for application for these courses will be announced separately in late January.

In addition, we plan to offer mentoring, Academic English classes, and extracurricular activities, such as book clubs and offline workshop.
Research scholarships (up to 800 Euro per semester) are available on a competitive basis for those BA and MA students who wish to implement a special empirical or theoretical project in addition to their course work in IUFU, drawing on their academic background, previous work, and relevant to the current situation and/or related to the themes of the courses. For PhD students who would like to apply for research grants, we will offer a separate call to participate in the newly launched IUFU Invisible Graduate School.
English is the primary language of instruction.
📌 Who is eligible?
Any student who has been pursuing a BA, MA, or doctoral degree program in a Ukrainian university in the 2021-22 academic year, who started her/his university studies in 2022 or 2023, 2024, or who graduated from a Ukrainian school in the meantime.
