Nitra City in Slovakia

The significance of the city of Nitra as a historical monument in the history of Slovakia is difficult to overestimate. Archaeological excavations have been conducted here many times, in different periods, during which more and more impressive facts were revealed. The first inhabitants of the villages settled on the site of the present city 6000 years ago. Since then, many eventful events have left their mark on the city's history.

Spring brings with it temperatures. Frosts in April are extremely rare. Frequent downpours in the spring can provoke rising water levels in rivers. With the onset of summer, the average night temperature does not fall below 15 degrees, and during the day it remains stable, not exceeding +27. In Slovakia, Nitra is one of the cities with the mildest climates and winters, respectively.

Nitra is located in the area between the Zobor massif (587 m) and the hills (Calvary 215 m, Sibenik peaks 218.5 m), which can be considered part of the Tribec Mountains, separated by the Nitra River from the main massif. Altitude ranges from 138 to 587 meters above sea level.

Nitra is considered the cradle of Slovak Christianity, in 829-833 the pagan Pribin called on the Archbishop of Salzburg to consecrate the first church. Cyril and Methodius stayed here. After the fall of Great Moravia, Nitra became part of the Kingdom of Hungary, where it became the center of the county.

At the end of the 5th century, the first Slavs came to the territory of Nitra. In the 7th century the territory was part of the state of Samo, then the Nitra principality emerged, which was later included by Moimir in Great Moravia.

It is considered to be the oldest city in Slovakia - the first record of it appeared in the chronicles in 828. Asteroid 9543-Nitra is named after the city.
