Knowing the rich maritime history of Holland, it's safe to say that the Museum of Shipping in Amsterdam is a must-see.
Its building was erected back in 1656 as an admiralty warehouse. It was converted into a museum by order of Princess Beatrix in 1973. From 2007 to 2011, it underwent a grandiose reconstruction, which resulted in an elegant glass structure above the courtyard, and the exhibits of the museum are divided into 11 halls of the exposition, according to the subject.
Visitors can see a huge collection of nautical charts, portraits of mariners, books about voyages across the oceans, and textbooks on navigation, as well as antique globes, measuring and navigation instruments.
The museum has the largest collection of various vessels, from ancient rowing boats to modern high-speed liners.

There are attractions in Amsterdam that attract not only adult visitors, but also members of the younger generation. Such institutions include the Nemo Museum, which has the form of a huge green ship, where the exhibits telling about the achievements of mankind in the field of technology, medicine, art and other areas are collected.

There are numerous interactive exhibits, allowing to learn a lot about the human body, the origin and possibilities of different energies, sound and light. Visitors are given the opportunity to take part in scientific experiments themselves.

The building has several levels, each with a specific theme. The top floor is in the form of a real ship deck, from which you can admire a magnificent view of Amsterdam and its surroundings.

n the Middle Ages town houses were made of wood, but after the fires of 1421 and 1452 they were built of brick or stone. The least damaged buildings were lined with brick directly over wood. This was one of the reasons why Amsterdam houses often have crooked, "battered" walls.
However, some houses were deliberately made with walls sloping toward the canals. This was explained by the convenience of lifting bulky loads. In addition, when the facade sloped, dust and soot accumulated to a lesser extent, and the rain did not spoil the finish.

Amsterdam is a city of organic fusion of seemingly incompatible things. The intricate system of canals is combined with an elaborate network of bicycle paths. Numerous discounts and food coupons combine with expensive museum and gallery tickets. In this city, every detail illustrates the fusion of Dutch neatness with chaos and confusion. Classic pubs, markets with tulips of every possible color, free love and easy drugs have updated the guide to, without exaggeration, the most charming city in Northern Europe. Amsterdam is especially good in summer!
