Rector's address
to the educational community of
National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute"
in connection with resumption of educational process in the form of distance learning
Dear teachers, students and other members of
educational process at the University!
At this difficult time for entire Ukraine, I would like to address each of you individually.
The ruthless, brutal armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has been going on for months. The whole country, our favorite city Kharkiv, our native KhAI suffered huge losses. Many of our staff and students were forced to evacuate from Kharkiv to safer places, countries, and a significant part of the team continues to be in Kharkiv and its suburbs.
Now many people cannot fully participate in the life of our University for objective reasons: they are under constant shelling and bombing, needing to save their own lives and the lives of their loved ones in bomb shelters, basements, subways, staying in the occupied villages near Kharkiv or other places where there is not always electricity and access to Internet, to a computer or laptop.
In recent weeks, we have carefully collected information about each teacher, student of KhAI, analyzed the state of affairs in faculties and departments, and together with deans of faculties, with all heads of educational departments of the University we decided to resume the educational process in KhAI remotely from March 28.
Each of you has suffered some losses during this terrible month of war: some have lost their property, some have unfortunately lost a loved one, and almost all of us have left our usual peace and psychological balance in the past. It is difficult for everyone now. Very difficult. But this should not be a reason for endless depression, panic, loss of hope.
We are all one family called KhAI. We must preserve our University! We need to unite and help each other even more at this time. From personal experience: when you do specific things, then you feel more faith in our Victory, confidence in a better future for the University and for each of you.
Renewal of the educational process at the University is an orientation on positive, creative activity, on restoration of peaceful algorithms of life. These are opportunities for our teaching staff to do their favorite thing again, which is to teach students, communicate with colleagues, feel needed and useful. For students, of course, it is an opportunity to complete the academic year and move on to the next year or enroll in a master's degree, for graduates it is a change to obtain long-awaited bachelor's or master's degrees and plan their future.
I understand very well that it will not be easy for someone to fully connect to the learning process. Indeed, no one is to blame for the enemy taking away their opportunity to teach or learn. But we propose the introduction of an asynchronous learning format that is in wartime will allow flexible modeling, adjust the trajectory of pedagogical and educational activities. In addition, if necessary, all faculties are ready to assist in granting a student academic leave or agreeing on an individual curriculum plan.
According to the available information on faculties and departments, almost all teachers are ready to resume work remotely, taking into account the specifics of wartime. Most students are also ready to study remotely. I am sure that the percentage of those who want to and who have at least some opportunity to participate in the educational process remotely will only increase.
I would also like to note that the task of each teacher at this time is to optimize conventional and find alternative ways of learning, assessment, choose an individual approach to each student, understand each of their problems and ensure a high level of quality education in these difficult conditions, applying pedagogical skills, creative approach, helping students in a convenient form to receive knowledge and competence.
I further emphasize that no requirement of the order of the University to resume the educational process of March 28, 2022 can be interpreted as neglect of security requirements. Your personal safety is a top priority!
In conclusion, I would like to note that the management and representatives of all services of the University work every day, including on weekends and holidays. We are ready, as far as possible, to support each of you, to listen to each of you, and taking into consideration the necessity and validity of your proposals to make changes to previous decisions, but all together we must preserve our University.
KhAI this is us! Together we will win!
PS I appeal to all recipients of this letter. I ask you to distribute the above text among our students, teachers, as well as other members in the educational process of the University, who for various reasons could not get it in the newsletter.
