In Lucerne, a large part of the medieval wall of the Museggmauer (built around 1400, 870 meters long) with eight high towers has been preserved. Three of them are open to the public. "Dying Lion" (Das Löwendenkmal) - the work of Danish sculptor Torvaldsen, is one of the world's most famous sculptures. This monument was erected in honor of the soldiers of the Swiss Guard who died during the storming of the Tuileries Palace on August 10, 1792, defending the life of the French king. Mark Twain described the monument as "the saddest and most touching stone statue in the world."
