Females and workers have 10-membered antennae with a 2-membered mace at the end [18]. The head of the workers has dimensions from 0.66 to 1.41 mm in length and from 0.65 to 1.43 mm in width. In larger workers (as in soldiers), their heads range in size from 1.35 to 1.40 mm and from 1.39 to 1.42 mm in width. Scapus tendrils have dimensions from 0.96 to 1.02 mm, and chest length is from 1.70 to 1.73 m

In September 2004, red fire ants were recorded on the island of Taiwan, where another fire ant, Solenopsis geminata, appeared a decade ago. Following reports of the dangerous effects of ant stings on the island's inhabitants, a massive campaign was launched to eradicate the new invasive species. However, its effectiveness was limited, and as a result, the ants settled here as well. In China, the introduction of fire ants was officially recognized in January 2005, although press reports have appeared since mid-2004 (Hong Kong newspapers including Appledaily, Mingpao, Hong Kong Economic Times, Singtao and Takungpao). Shenzhen and Uchuan were mentioned in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, and Hong Kong.
