Zurich is governed by an executive body - the Stadtrat (City Council), which consists of 9 members (4 SDP, 2 FDP, 1 CSP, 1 Green, 1 LdU). Legislature - Hemainderat - 125 people (49 SDP, 26 FDP, 26 SVP, 8 CVP, 7 Greens, 4 LdU, 2 AL, 1 FraP, 1 EVP, 1 SD).

In 1934, the so-called Aingmeindung took place - the inclusion of the surrounding villages in the city, which almost doubled Zurich (11% - buildings, 24% - forests, 14% - streets and roads, 6% - water bodies).

30% of all residents have a bourgeoisie (status similar to citizenship) in the city of Zurich. Among them are elected, for example, the Civilian Branch of the National War, 125 MPs in the Zurich Parliament, who decide on the provision of bourgeoisie to foreigners (including those from other parts of Switzerland). In 10 years, the bourgeoisie of the city of Zurich received 3,500 people.

Zurich is one of the most important transport hubs in Europe due to the fact that the city has the largest railway station and international airport. Zurich is also an international financial center, with large banks (UBS and Credit Suisse) and insurance companies (Zurich Insurance Group and Swiss Re).

According to several studies in 2006 and 2007, Zurich was named the city with the "Best Quality of Life" in the world. In 2012, Zurich was recognized as the most expensive city in the world, followed by Tokyo and Geneva. [5]
