Zanzibar University (ZU) is a private university in Zanzibar, Tanzania . It opened in 1998 as the first university in Zanzibar, It is a private university sponsored by the Darul Iman Charitable Association, an Islamic religious organization in Ontario, Canada. It is situated at Tunguu area, in the Central District, some 12 miles (19 km) from Zanzibar Town. The University campus, with a total area of 170 acres (0.69 km2) of land, is located among quiet countryside surroundings overlooking the Indian Ocean. There is public transport to the University. Hafla rasmi ya kutia saini makubaliano ya kimkakati katia ya Zanzibar University na wahisani kutoka taasisi ana asasi za kiraia nchini Uingereza yamefanyika tarehe 31 08 26 huko Tunguu Kibele Zanzibar. HAFLA hiyo ilisimamiwa na Prof Mohammed Awedelkarim Makamu mkuu wa Chuo na kwa upande wa Wahisani hao Syed Maulana AbuJaffar Saleh alisimamia zoezi hilo. Mashirikiano hayo yatakuwa kayika sector ya Afya na mengineyo.

On 31st August 2026, Zanzibar University (ZU)* was pleased to welcome a delegation from *lI Next Scope Tanzania for a significant engagement that culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Muhammed Awadelkarim Elhussein, Vice Chancellor of Zanzibar University, and Prof. Dr. Saadalla Salaheldin, Senior Overseas Advisor – Middle East, Gulf & Africa, I Next Scope Tanzania.

The partnership underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering institutional growth, academic excellence, knowledge exchange, innovation, and mutually beneficial collaboration.
