The Kitchen Zanzibar - We are also launching a restaurant, The Kitchen in Zanzibar, inspired by a successful UK cafe run by Garry and Nicky Hall.

The idea was sparked after Garry hosted a charity event at his cafe in Wraysbury, where guest speakers shared how local businesses could support orphans in Africa. Moved by the discussion, Garry, an award-winning chef, travelled to Zanzibar to train young people in cooking, which led to the vision of opening a cafe there. The Kitchen in Zanzibar will offer a mix of traditional Swahili dishes and English meals, crafted by a UK-trained chef.

Located near Zanzibar University, the restaurant will be run by students from our after-school Girls’ Club program, providing them with valuable hospitality training and employment. ZL4LF also plans to involve parents of our GasiCare kids, giving them a way to earn income and support their families. Additionally, the restaurant will deliver meals to our visitors and volunteers. The team has already secured land for the project and is working with architects to finalise plans. Construction is set to begin soon, bringing this vision to life and creating lasting opportunities for the community.

In Zanzibar, children with special needs often face significant barriers to accessing the same opportunities for fun, play, and social interaction that other children enjoy. Unfortunately, many of these children are excluded from mainstream activities due to physical, intellectual, or sensory challenges. This exclusion can limit their development, emotional well-being, and integration into the community. As a result, it is crucial that we create spaces where these children can thrive and be supported
