Q1. Find the value of y in the following term?
3y+4=24+y

Q1. Find the value of y in the following; 3y+4=y+24

Solution
3y+4=y+24
i) Collect the like terms together
3y and y then 23 and 4
3y-y=24-4
ii) We subtracted y from 3y and 4 from 24 because the rule says,if a positive number crosses an equal sign it changes to negative and vice-versa.
Therefore,
3y-y=24-4
2y=20
iii) Divide both sides by the coefficient, which is 2,
2y/2=20/2
y=10.
