For this edition of our Artist Spotlight, we have chosen our very own Abdul, who serves our centre as both a manager and an artist. His knowledge of oils and cosmetics is vital to many of the products we offer.
When you stop by the center, you will likely see Abdul hand blending, marinating, and mixing various ingredients together to create oils. Once these are made, he mixes them in different ways each time, which creates many unique combinations of scents. These are then used to make products ranging from frangrances to moisturizers to mosquito repellents. Not only do these products feel and smell beautiful, but they're highly efficacious as well. Some of the ingredients in these blends have shown to moisturize and brighten skin, reduce eczema and psoriasis, and/or reduce inflammation and acne.
To him, passing down knowledge is of utmost importance. Just as his grandmother imparted onto him all of her knowledge about this craft, Abdul wishes to do the same to his students;
"My one goal for the Cultural Arts Centre is to see my students surpass me," he says.
