Daraja Music Initiative (DMI) is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit Organization that promotes awareness of valuable natural resources by actively engaging students and the community with the power of music. Teaching students in Moshi, Tanzania to play clarinet and violin empowers them by improving problem-solving skills, facilitating self-sufficiency, and by providing a healthy creative outlet. Students

and DMI teachers take part in innovative interdisciplinary performances/tree plantings throughout the Kilimanjaro region to help connect musical instruments with the environment and the local community, therefore fostering a sincere desire for a sustainable future.

Hongera wanafunzi! Here are some of our DMI clarinet students playing Mungu Ibariki, the national anthem of Tanzania, during an assembly for the entire Majengo Primary student body. We're so glad that the Majengo Primary School's Music Club is now active and ready to perform when needed. Hongera! 👏🏼 🎶

Time flies when you’re having fun! 🎶✨

Our summer program has flown by, and we’re excited to celebrate all of our students’ hard work at our Final Concert!

DMI will be at Courage Café’s Farmer’s Market tomorrow Friday, July 17th at 10am-12pm along with 20+ other vendors. Come join us for some live music! We can’t wait to see you there 🤩🎶

Our students loved today’s field trip to the Kilimanjaro International Airport! ✈️

Our fantastic guides, Mlay and Barak, showed us the ins and out of the airport operations, and explained how the airport balances daily operations with their environmental responsibility. ♻️

This was the first time for many of our students to see planes land and take off, and we event got to get very close to a real plane! what an unforgettable day of learning and discovery 🛩️☁️☀️

We were delighted to have Msafiri Zawose come to Moshi to do a workshop with our students. They learned a few traditional Wagogo songs on ilimba (thumb piano). Our students loved it! Asante sana, Msafiri! 🎶 🙏🏼

Our first two weeks in Tanzania have been nothing short of incredible! The days have been filled with engaging music and conservation lessons by our volunteers, tree plantings and prunings with , Open Mic Night , community performances and , and wonderful students who have been so eager to learn 💚🎶🌱

DMI will perform at Jackfruit Café every Sunday in June & July from 1:00-3:00pm with our first performance this Sunday! We hope to see you there 🤗
