The Jordan University College although its name is new; however its origin goes back to 1993 when the Salvatorian Major Seminary was established in Morogoro. In the first six years of its existence the main purpose of the Seminary was to prepare the candidate to the priesthood. In 1999 the Seminary changed its name into the Salvatorian Institute of Philosophy and Theology and at the same time it opened the doors to anybody who wanted to pursue studies of Philosophy and Theology. In those years both BA programmes of Philosophy and Theology received ecclesiastical affiliation to the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy. The number of students was approaching 300. In the academic year 2010/2011 the Salvatorian Institute affiliated with the St. Augustine University of Tanzania becoming its constituent college and changing its name into Jordan University College. In that academic year BA with Education was added and the total number of students increased to almost 700.

Jordan University College (JUCo) first-year students pursuing the Bachelor of Education with Religious Studies recently visited the Charles Lwanga Catechetical Centre in Mzumbe as part of an academic and outreach initiative led by Dr. Jacek Gorka, OFM, Director of Outreach and Internationalisation. The visit aimed to foster academic collaboration while providing students with an opportunity to engage directly with catechists-in-training.

Hosted by Fr. Dr. Karoli Mroka, Director of the Centre, together with catechists Augustine Madenge and Divinus Mkalaga, the JUCo delegation of 16 students interacted with more than 30 students from the Centre. The discussions focused on the vocation of catechists, the distinction between catechetics and catechesis, the relationship between faith and religion, and the importance of adopting contemporary approaches to catechetical ministry.

The visit also highlighted the complementary missions of the two institutions. While JUCo offers Tanzania's only university programme in Religious Studies that welcomes students of all faiths, the Charles Lwanga Catechetical Centre focuses on preparing catechists for service within the Catholic Church. Both institutions expressed their commitment to building long-term academic and professional links that will enrich student learning, strengthen catechist formation, and contribute to the educational mission of the Diocese of Morogoro.
