Our programme to support CEOs of public statutory corporations (PSCs) in achieving excellence continues.

This past Tuesday, Hon Prof. Kitila Alexander Mkumbo, Minister of State, President’s Office - Planning and Investment, opened the third workshop of programme centred on the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (DIRA 2050).

Launched in 2024 by the Office of the Treasury Registrar in collaboration with UONGOZI Institute, the programme equips CEOs with strategic insights and practical tools to strengthen their performance and that of their institutions. It also fosters dialogue on how PSCs can collaborate more effectively to maximise their contribution to national socio-economic development.

Yesterday, UONGOZI Institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade convened a national forum on the role of hubs and clusters in small and medium enterprise (SME) development in Tanzania.

The guest of honour was Hon. Dennis Londo (MP), Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.

Drawing on findings from the Institute’s recent research study, the forum discussed the contribution of innovation hubs and clusters to job creation and economic growth, systemic barriers that prevent them from scaling up, and ways to ensure inclusivity and sustainability.

What an incredible session! Thanks to Dr. Nkundwe Mwasaga and everyone who joined us at our Resource Centre in Dar es Salaam and through Zoom last Friday to discuss lessons from Christie Smith and Kelly Monahan’s book “Essential: How Distributed Teams, Generative AI, and Global Shifts Are Creating a New Human-Powered Leadership”.

In the book, the two authors explain how traditional leadership models are becoming obsolete in the age of artificial intelligence, while emphasising that human intelligence remains superior to machines because of its ability for innovation, creativity, and empathy. Drawing on lessons from the book and his personal experience, Dr. Mwasaga said that the true challenge for leaders in the digital age is to harness these tools to enhance their leadership capabilities, ensuring that technology strengthens, rather than undermines, the human connections that are the essence of effective leadership. Leaders must commit to a model that views the workforce not as a series of inputs into a system but as a vibrant community of essential individuals, each with unique needs, dreams, and challenges.
