ABOUT THE INSTITUTE OF DIRECTORS IN TANZANIA (THE IoDT)
Background – Formation & Formal Launch
The IoDT was incorporated in September 2010. Mohammed Gharib
Bilal, the Vice-President of UR Tanzania at the Dar es salaam Grand Hyatt in May, 2012. The Institute is a voluntary and unique nation-wide membership organization for directors, in their
‘individual’ professional capacity. It champions best bu
siness practices and effective corporate
governance – through professional development and certification programmes, workshops, networking
events, advocacy and thought leadership – which also supports Tanzania as an attractive destination of
foreign direct investment. The IoDT is the voice of Directors (from the private and public sectors). The specific role that the IoDT wishes to play in society is succinctly expressed through its vision (see
below). Its slogan: “Better directors, better boards, better business” truly captures its ‘reason of being’,
plus the belief that the final objective is a better and prosperous Tanzania. Mission, Vision Objectives – At the Center of Everything that the IoDT Is and Does
The IoDT believes that corporate governance is a pre-requisite for a vibrant national economy and
better Tanzania. In conducting its business, the IoDT upholds the principles and values of (TIEF&P):

• Excellence – meritorious service to society
• Fairness – without bias or favour, and
• Professionalism – upholding skills, competence and good judgement
