Why do children copy hand movements during circle time? 🌿

In Waldorf-inspired spaces, this isn’t just “cute”, it’s powerful learning in action.

Young children learn through imitation. They don’t need long explanations; they absorb what they see, feel, and experience. When we move our hands with intention, they follow, and through that, something deep begins to grow.

And you can see the development unfold:
On the left we can see a 3-year-old who may imitate loosely, in their own rhythm, still finding their body…
while the almost 6-year-old on the right moves with more precision, coordination, and inner awareness.

✨ Movement, speech, and feeling come together
✨ Rhythm creates safety and calm
✨ Coordination and brain pathways develop naturally
✨ A sense of belonging is built in the group
✨ Imagination comes alive through gesture and story

What looks simple on the outside is actually supporting the whole child - body, heart, and mind.

In a world that often rushes children into thinking, this is a gentle reminder:
First, they learn through doing. Through being. Through us. 🌱

May our children keep their connection to nature. Their awe for the small things. Their courage and bravery in trying out new things.

May our children enjoy these short years of early childhood - 5 years out of hopefully 100 and more - to the fullest.
Embrace the uniqueness of these precious years where they are full of energy, unfiltered emotions, full of imagination and wonder.

May we adults commit to protecting their innocence, their authenticity and the pure love in our childrens' heart 💜💜💜

For the last 3 days our big students had the incredible chance to do an internship at .tz in Masaki.
It is absolutely beautiful to see how much responsibility they WANT to and CAN take on.
They thrive with challenges. There are different "work options" to choose from - be it cooking in the kitchen or baking in the bakery, learning how to make coffee, greeting guests, taking orders, bringing orders to the tables, being the cashier and figuring out bills and change.
Seeing where work is needed and doing it without being asked - be it washing dishes, sweeping, organizing the ingredients, - our students truly showed self-Initiative.
The amount of learning is tremendous!! They had to adjust to new people in a new environment, they had to learn to communicate with guests, receive feedback, follow instructions, understand when to ask questions.
They met all kinds of different people, happy ones, quiet ones, stressed ones and encouraging ones. Each customer required them to be present and attentive.
If they forgot an order they had to go back to apologize and ask again.

These three days so far have been filled with so so much REAL LIFE learning, the words are not enough to explain and certainly not enough to express the deep gratitude we feel towards .tz for giving our students the chance to experience something which will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

We started this month with the theme of FAIRYTALES AND FOLKLORE. Stories are so essential to early childhood and actually throughout our whole life. Our life is our very own story at the end of the day and we are the authors.
This story is about a pumpkin which is covered by thorns, everyone is trying to get it, but only a little girl is successful in the end. The Waldorf way is all about exposing with no pressure, so we weave the pumpkin into our morning ring, have prompts around the room. On Friday we went to Shoppers to buy a big pumpkin which we will process together now during this coming week. We will sow seeds, we will boil the pumpkin, we want to make pumpkin soup and pumpkin pie. We will realize that the pumpkin is so versatile, can be sweet or savory...but either way delicious. Let's see how our little ones do with these new tastes :) Its all about exploring and being curious....

Light table Magic!!
Some days you don’t need more noise — you need light.

Light tables have this quiet magic to them. They slow you down. They invite your hands to explore, your eyes to notice details you’d normally rush past. Tracing lines, layering textures, creating new shapes and patterns — simple moments that feel deeply grounding.

Whether it’s for art, play, or just a moment to breathe, a light table turns ordinary moments into something soft and intentional. A reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful!

We all build a big castle wall together to block a door, leaving just a small space left to squeeze through. Which was of course a lot easier for us than our Mwalimu! At some point we even got scared she got stuck!! But together with a lot of cooperation and strength we managed to pull her out!!

This is a new game we came up this last week and it never gets boring. Sometimes the entrance is even smaller!!
Children like repetition because it helps them build understanding, strengthen their brains, and gain a sense of security. It allows their developing brains to form neural connections, making new information and concepts more familiar and predictable, which in turn builds their confidence and helps them learn.

Meet Christian, or how the children know him around here Chris Babu. He has been with us since the very beginning, making sure our playground is safe and clean for everyone to enjoy. However his role is so much more than that, he is the male presence at our Kindergarten, which is so important for both our boys and girls, he is the one who will plant, water and harvest with the kids, the one who mixes and pours cement with the kids to make a path for little toy cars, the one who involves the kids in cleaning up the yard, finding rabbits and showing how to take care of them. He has a calm and warm presence with a welcoming smile which makes all our children immediately connect to him.
Even though doing puzzles might be not his calling 😅 he is humble and curious enough to let our children show him and teach him, two souls, side by side, different in age and gender, but at the end of the day both human beings who enjoy each other's company. That's what life is about ❤️❤️

Here we are, sitting at the water’s edge, where curiosity meets a little bit of fear. To us little people the pool looks wide and endless, yet with a gentle voice nearby and friends close together, courage begins to grow.

Water teaches us more than strokes and kicks - it teaches trust, presence, and surrender. Have you ever heard of the BLUE MIND EFFECT?

The Blue Mind effect is a scientifically observed state of calm, peace, and enhanced well-being experienced when people are near, in, on, or under water.
This "mildly meditative" state is a genuine biological reaction that occurs because our bodies are predominantly water, and seeing or hearing water triggers the brain to recognize it as a familiar and safe environment, lowering stress hormones like cortisol and increasing feel good neurotransmitters.

This is why swimming on Tuesdays is always a highlight of the week!! ❤️

Is there something more magical than searching for small hidden worlds deeply buried under bushes or behind trees....sometimes you need the hand of your friend on your back to have the courage. But together we feel strong, like explorers of new worlds..
Nature's simplicity and at the same time complexity is what strengthens our imagination, our inner world, our realization that we ARE nature...

Children often take pride in the spaces they spend time in. When they get the chance to add their own touch, like coloring a big painting of a truck on the wall, they feel a real sense of ownership. Seeing the truck come to life with their colors makes the environment feel brighter and more personal. It’s something they can point to with pride and know, "I helped make this look beautiful"
