Session A: Mechanics of Porous Media
Instructor: Prof. Ronaldo Borja (Stanford University)
- Concept of volume fraction; particle scale; continuum scale
- Flow through porous media; equation of continuity
- Effective stress concept; equation of equilibrium
- Darcy’s law and Hooke’s law
- Terzaghi’s 1D consolidation theory
Session B: Nonlinear and 3D problems
Instructor: Prof. Ronaldo Borja (Stanford University)
- Plasticity theory in 1D; elastic and plastic deformation
- Calculation of 1D subsidence due to groundwater extraction
- Biot’s 3D consolidation theory
- Numerical modeling of 3D subsidence
- The Yunlin Subsidence Laboratory
Session C: Fundamentals of satellite radar interferometry for deformation monitoring — The geodetic perspective
Instructor: Prof. Ramon Hanssen (Delft University of Technology)
- This workshop will interactively present the basic concepts of InSAR, utilizing a new perspective developed at TU Delft. Through Jupyter notebook scripts shared in advance, participants will directly experience the challenges and opportunities of InSAR parameter estimation. The primary goal is to highlight the non-unique nature of the estimation problem and provide practical ways to address this non-uniqueness. The session will conclude with an introduction to new recursive methods for InSAR-based deformation monitoring.
