Halloween (more accurately, Halloween Night) is celebrated annually on October 31st. This festive celebration, filled with mystery, costumes, and candy, originated over 2,000 years ago with the Celtic festival of Samhain. People believed that the souls of the dead would return to earth on this night, so they lit bonfires and wore animal skin masks to ward off evil spirits. Later, it merged with the Christian All Hallows' Eve, evolving into the modern, globally popular holiday we know today.
