HUTLC 2026 Student Applications Are Officially Open!

Since our founding in 2007, the Harvard Undergraduate Taiwan Leadership Conference (HUTLC) has served as a bridge connecting hundreds of Taiwanese students, Harvard undergraduates, and HUTLC alumni. This year, we are taking things to the next level, and we want you to be a part of it.

We are thrilled to announce that for the first time in 2026, HUTLC will be hosted at National Taiwan University! Following our resounding success in 2025, our Harvard student-teachers are returning to Taiwan, ready to engage with you face-to-face in the heart of Taipei.

***Conference Details***

Application Timeline: April 6th – May 9th, 2026

Conference Dates: August 11th – August 17th, 2026

Venue: National Taiwan University (NTU)

Admission Fee: A deposit of 1,500 NTD is required (This is fully refunded upon successful completion of the conference).

Eligibility: High school students (Including rising college freshmen; excluding rising high school freshmen).

《HUTLC Guest Speaker Introduction》
Hello! I’m 端木(Duan Mu), and I’m really excited to share my story with you. Back in university, I was a bit of a lost soul—I wasn’t sure what I was passionate about or where I was headed. I even took time off from school and eventually changed my major, hoping to find a clearer path. It wasn’t easy, but those moments of doubt pushed me to explore more deeply.

Through trial and error, I eventually found my spark: photography. It became a way for me to connect with people, tell stories, and see the world differently. There’s a saying I deeply believe in: “Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand.” That idea has shaped not only how I learn, but how I create.

I’m here today to share a bit of that journey with you. I hope it encourages you to stay curious, keep exploring, and trust that even the messy parts of your path can lead to something meaningful.

《HUTLC Guest Speaker Introduction》
Luisa Shu-Ying Chang (張淑英), Ph.D. in Spanish and Latin American Literature
from the Complutense University of Madrid, is Professor in the Department of
Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University (NTU) and
currently serves as President of both the Taiwanese and Asian Associations of
Hispanists.
She was seconded to Taipei Medical University as Executive Vice President
(2023–2025) and previously served as Senior Advisor for Global Affairs and
Professor at National Tsing Hua University (2019–2022); Vice President for
International Affairs at NTU (2013–2019), and Deputy Dean of NTU’s College of
Liberal Arts (2011–2013). In 2016, she was elected a foreign member of the Royal
Spanish Academy.
A dedicated leader in international higher education, Dr. Chang frequently serves as
speaker and chair at global academic forums and actively fosters institutional
partnerships and scholarly exchange with universities worldwide.
Her research focuses on contemporary Spanish and Latin American literature and
cultural studies, travel writing, picaresque novels, colonial chronicles, and translation
between Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hokkien. She has translated over 20
works. In 2023, her international research team received First Prize from Spain’s
Fundación Duques de Soria.

《HUTLC Guest Speaker Introduction》
With accolades from globally recognized artists like Lauv, keshi, and LANY, Dena is far from your typical Taiwanese pop artist and influencer. As one of the few bi-cultural talents, she has not only penned songs for artists across Asia but also built a loyal fanbase through her YouTube channel, "Hey It's Dena." On this platform, she openly shares her journey, from nursing school to music school. With each video and song, Dena inspires fans of all ages, creating a genuine connection that resonates deeply with her global audience.
In 2023, she became the first Taiwanese singer-songwriter invited to the U.S. to collaborate and host workshops with Grammy-winning producers James Fauntleroy and Ant Clemons. Her rare ability to seamlessly weave cultural nuances into her music makes Dena one to watch, as she continues to carve out her own lane in the evolving landscape of pop.
