一天體驗兩種最有台灣味的中秋傳統！

How do people in Taiwan celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival?

We make and share traditional pastries—and, of course, have a barbecue!

On September 26, REC is bringing you two cultural experiences in one day. Join either activity or spend the whole day with us!

🥮 MAKE YOUR OWN EGG YOLK PASTRY

Learn how to make 蛋黃酥 (dànhuángsū), a flaky Taiwanese pastry filled with sweet red bean paste and a rich salted egg yolk.

No baking experience is required. We’ll make the pastries together, learn useful Chinese words, and discover the culture behind this Mid-Autumn Festival favorite!

⏰ Time: 1:00–3:30 PM
💰 Fee: NT$500 per person

🔥 TAIWANESE MID-AUTUMN BBQ PARTY

Experience a uniquely Taiwanese tradition: celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with a barbecue!

Enjoy Taiwanese BBQ food and drinks while practicing Chinese and English naturally and meeting new friends from different cultures. Coming alone? No problem—we’ll help everyone feel welcome!

9 月 26 日，REC 準備了兩場充滿台灣味的中秋文化體驗。你可以選擇參加其中一場，也可以從下午玩到晚上，一次體驗兩種中秋傳統！

🥮 一起動手做台灣蛋黃酥

這次不只要吃蛋黃酥，還要親手做出來！

我們會一起製作酥脆的外皮、包入香甜豆沙和鹹蛋黃，同時認識相關的中文詞彙與中秋文化。沒有烘焙經驗也完全沒問題，只要帶著好奇心來參加！

You don’t need perfect Chinese—you just need a few useful phrases and the courage to speak up!

洗牌 — Shuffle the tiles
換你了 — It’s your turn
等一下 — Wait a second
吃！碰！槓！胡！— Chi! Pong! Kong! Hu!

And remember the most important rule:

Take one tile, discard one tile.
If you call Chi or Pong, that already counts as taking a tile—so don’t draw again!

You’ve met Teacher Tank.
But maybe you’ve never met Tank. 🤍
Today is International Dog Day.
And today also marks 100 days since I said goodbye to my little boy.
If you’ve been following REC for a while, you’ve probably seen Teacher Tank everywhere.
He teaches Chinese.
He plays mahjong.
He goes to night markets.
He shows up in our stories, our events, and sometimes in the most ridiculous situations.
But Teacher Tank was never just a character I created for REC.
Before there was Teacher Tank, there was simply Tank.
He was there before REC existed.
He was there through ordinary days, difficult days, new adventures, work, friends, changes, and so many different chapters of my life.
Somehow, when REC began growing into its own little world, Tank naturally became part of it too.
And eventually, he became Teacher Tank.
On May 18, I had to say goodbye to him.
100 days later, I still miss him.
I miss the little sounds he made.
I miss seeing him in his usual spots.
I miss looking over and simply knowing he was there.
I think that’s the strange thing about losing someone you love.
They leave, but somehow, they don’t completely disappear.
And maybe love just finds another way to stay.
So Teacher Tank will keep teaching Chinese.
He’ll keep playing mahjong.
He’ll keep exploring Taiwan.
He’ll keep showing up in REC’s ridiculous little adventures.
Because Teacher Tank was never just our mascot.
He was family first.
And as long as REC keeps creating stories, there will always be a little place for Tank in them.
Happy International Dog Day, my little boy. 🐾
I miss you.

你可能已經認識 Teacher Tank 很久了。
但你也許從來沒有真正認識過 Tank。🤍
今天是國際狗狗日。
也是我和我的小寶貝說再見後的第 100 天。
如果你追蹤 REC 一段時間了，你大概到處都看過 Teacher Tank。
他教中文、打麻將、逛夜市，出現在我們的故事、活動裡，也常常莫名其妙被捲進各種荒謬的情境。
但 Teacher Tank 從來不是我為了 REC 創造出來的一個角色。
在 Teacher Tank 以前，
他就只是 Tank。
在還沒有 REC 的時候，他就已經在我身邊。
他陪我度過很多平凡的日子、很難熬的日子、新的冒險、工作、朋友，以及人生一次又一次的改變。
後來，當 REC 慢慢長成現在這個有點混亂、有點好笑、充滿各種故事的小世界時，Tank 也很自然地走了進來。
然後，他成為了大家認識的 Teacher Tank。
5 月 18 日，我和他說了再見。
100 天後的今天，我還是很想他。
想念他發出的那些小小聲音，
想念他總是待著的那些位置，
想念一轉過頭，就知道他在那裡的感覺。
我想，失去一個很愛很愛的家人，大概就是這麼奇怪的一件事。
他離開了。
可是好像又沒有真的完全消失。
也許，愛只是換了一種方式留下來。
所以以後 Teacher Tank 還是會繼續教中文、繼續打麻將、繼續探索台灣，也會繼續被我抓去參加 REC 各種奇奇怪怪的冒險。
因為 Teacher Tank 從來不只是一個吉祥物。
在成為 Teacher Tank 以前，他先是我的家人。
只要 REC 還在繼續創造新的故事，那些故事裡，就永遠會留一個小小的位置給 Tank。
國際狗狗日快樂，我的小寶貝。🐾

Qixi isn’t just about having a date. ❤️

Qixi 七夕 is often introduced as the “Chinese Valentine’s Day,” but its cultural roots go much deeper than that.

Traditionally celebrated on the **7th day of the 7th lunar month**, Qixi comes from the story of **Niulang 牛郎 and Zhinu 織女** — two lovers separated by the Milky Way who are allowed to reunite only once a year.

Romantic? Definitely.
A little tragic? Also definitely. 😂

Today, Qixi has become a day for dates, flowers, gifts and romantic dinners — but we think there’s another way to look at it:

**A good night doesn’t have to depend on having a partner.**

Go out. Try something new. Eat something ridiculous. Practice a language you’re still terrible at. Meet someone you wouldn’t normally meet.

Romance is great.

But so are **food, friendship and new experiences.** ❤️

And if you happen to be free after Qixi…

大家常把七夕介紹成「華人的情人節」，但它背後其實有更悠久的文化故事。

傳統七夕是在**農曆七月初七**，源自牛郎與織女的傳說——兩人被銀河分隔，每年只有這一天能夠相見。

很浪漫嗎？

很浪漫。

但仔細想想……

**一年只能見一次，好像也滿辛苦的。😂**

現在的七夕，常常讓人想到約會、鮮花、禮物和浪漫晚餐。

但也有另一種過法：

**不用等一個人出現，才開始享受自己的晚上。**

去一個沒去過的地方、吃沒吃過的東西、認識新朋友、用還不太流利的語言跟陌生人聊幾句。

愛情很棒。

但**朋友、美食和新的體驗，也很值得期待。❤️**

這也是 REC 一直想做的事——

If you’re living in Taiwan, you may have noticed offerings on the streets, incense burning, and people talking about things you *definitely shouldn’t do* during Ghost Month.

Some of these traditions might sound spooky, some might sound surprising — but they’re all part of the culture surrounding Ghost Month in Taiwan.

And whatever you do…

Seriously. You might accidentally end up with a spouse. 💀💍😂

Whether you believe in these traditions or not, understanding them is another way to understand the culture — and a little respect never hurts. ❤️
