Our Scholars' Cup CCA debaters delivered an outstanding performance during yesterday's and today's Debate Showcase, which centred on the motion, "International Schools Offer a Better Education than Local Schools." Both the Affirmative and Negative teams demonstrated exceptional persuasive techniques and presentation skills throughout the event.

This showcase follows their recent success at the Taiwan National Round of the World Scholar's Cup, where they successfully qualified for the Global Round in Vietnam this September. Most of our talented debaters will move on to compete on that international stage.

Huge congratulations go out to our dedicated participants.👏👏

The month of May was a busy and exciting time for the TES Theatre Department, as several of our students attended a range of outstanding professional productions across Taipei.

On Sunday 10th May, students attended Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal performance 'Like Moss on the Stone' at the National Theatre and Concert Hall. This was followed by the world tour production of 'The Phantom of the Opera' by Andrew Lloyd Webber on Saturday, 16th May at the Taipei Performing Arts Centre (TPAC). Students also had the fantastic opportunity of an exclusive backstage tour led by the company’s backstage crew after the performance. Finally, on Saturday, 30th May, students watched 'The Threepenny Opera' by the Berliner Ensemble performed at TPAC.

These experiences were a great opportunity to expose our students to a diverse range of theatrical styles while deepening their understanding of performance, stage design, and professional theatre-making.

At the end of May, we had the honor of welcoming five members of the Berlin-Taipei Parliamentary Friendship Group to the German Section of TES. Following their high-profile meeting with President Lai the previous day, the politicians took the time to engage in a panel discussion with our students. 🏛️👏

Moderated by our Studentspeakers, Felix and Adrian, it turned into an inspiring and heartfelt conversation. During the Q&A session, even our 5th graders showed incredible political awareness, confidently asking insightful and challenging questions. A fantastic event that beautifully highlighted our core school values of democracy and fairness! 🌱

🍪👩‍🍳 Last Friday, our CP students stepped into the role of bakers for the morning in the Junior Kitchen!

As they created their delicious cookies, they also put their maths skills into practice by measuring ingredients in grams and millilitres, using timers to track their preparation time, and exploring different geometric shapes through their cookie designs.

The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, focus, and enthusiasm as they carefully followed instructions, mixed ingredients, and watched their creations come to life.

The best part? Enjoying the tasty results of their hard work! 😋

A wonderful example of hands-on learning that combines mathematics, creativity, collaboration, and fun — all wrapped up in a delicious treat! ✨

TES proudly celebrated the Graduation Ceremony of the Class of 2026; a milestone marking the culmination of years of learning, growth, perseverance, creativity, responsibility, and respect.

Under the theme Illuminate the Future, we reflected on the remarkable journeys of our graduates and looked ahead to the exciting opportunities that await them. Students, families, staff, and friends came together to celebrate achievements, share memories, and honour the unique contributions this year group has made to our community.

The evening included a surprise presentation of a TES High School Diploma to our retiring CEO, Mr John Nixon. Presented by members of the Board, and complete with a graduation sash and cap, it was a joyful and fitting recognition of his years of leadership and service to the TES community.

To our graduates: thank you for the energy, kindness, resilience, and ambition you have brought to TES. You leave behind memories, friendships, and a legacy that will continue to shape our community. As you take your next steps, we hope you continue to grow, contribute, and illuminate the future in your own unique ways.
Congratulations, TES Class of 2026. We are incredibly proud of you and cannot wait to see what comes next.

In collaboration with the Primary Campus Library Team, the EPC Counselling Centre held a two-week My Superpower Lab book exhibition from 25 May to 6 June.

Through stories, activities, and self-reflection, students were invited to explore five key “superpowers” they have been developing throughout this school year — Kindness, Bravery, Teamwork, Creativity, and Perseverance. They also had the opportunity to reflect on which superpower they felt had grown the most and celebrate the progress they have made this year.

It was wonderful to see students recognising their strengths, sharing their reflections, and appreciating the unique qualities that make them who they are. We hope every student leaves My Superpower Lab feeling proud of their growth and inspired to continue using these superpowers to support themselves and those around them!

A group of dedicated H1 students recently represented BSHS in the FOBISIA Drama Devising Competition, creating an original dystopian performance exploring the impact of excessive phone use on human connection.

Set in a hyper-digital future, their piece followed four characters grappling with the loneliness and emotional distance that can arise when technology replaces meaningful relationships. Through carefully crafted movement, sound, lighting, and moments of silence, the students created a moody, immersive atmosphere that captured both the comfort and the isolation of a world dominated by screens.

In recognition of their creativity and thoughtful storytelling, the group received an Honourable Mention from the judges, a wonderful achievement that reflects their commitment, collaboration, and willingness to take artistic risks. Their performance not only showcased strong devising skills but also encouraged audiences to reflect on their own digital habits and the importance of genuine human connection.

Our Visual Arts Department recently welcomed the Yilan-based Lize Puppet Art Colony to the secondary campus. Led by Siglo (Sigmund Roy Pecho) from the Philippines, the workshop gave the German Klasse 5 students the opportunity to explore the concept of time through art. The session was filled with excitement and joy as students learned how to shape light into meaningful shadows and tell stories through puppetry. Their collaborative work will culminate in a performance of the famous German story The Town Musicians of Bremen, a tale that beautifully reflects the spirit of collaboration. We are grateful to the Lize Puppet Art Colony, represented by Ms Lee Wen Jin and Mr Helmi Fita, for visiting TES and for sharing their passion for puppetry with our students.
