Hi students! Teacher Wendy here with some IELTS Speaking tips and practice.
I thought today we could look at some IELTS Speaking exam topics from 2021. Maybe you haven’t thought about them before, or aren’t familiar with related English vocabulary. Let’s think about them together so we can be ready for whatever we get asked about on test day!
Part 1:
Topic- Headphones
Q: Do you use headphones?
A: Yes, I use them all the time since I live in the city. They’re really useful when you need some privacy to take a call or just want to listen to music or a podcast.
(Vocabulary: all the time, privacy)
Q: What type of headphones do you use?
A: I like using wireless bluetooth air pods, because there’re no wires to get stuck in my hair or bag. I can carry them in my pocket and pull them out whenever I want.
(Vocabulary: wireless, bluetooth, pull (something) out)
Q: When do you wear headphones?
A: I actually wear them a lot at home when I watch videos on my laptop, so I don’t disturb my family members. I also use them when I have video conference meetings for work. Of course I use them when I’m commuting on public transport as well.
(Vocabulary: disturb, video conference)
Q: In what situations would you not use headphones?
A: I don’t think it’s appropriate to wear headphones when you are interacting with someone else in real life. For example, if I go to a store or restaurant, I will always take my headphones out to talk to the staff. I don’t want to be rude.
(Vocabulary: appropriate, in real life, rude)
Part 2:
Describe a bicycle or car trip you would like to go on
You should say:
-Who you would like to go with
-Where you would like to go
-When you would like to go
And explain why you would like to go by bicycle or car
Answer: I’d really like to go on a bicycle tour around the island of Taiwan. I’d probably go along with my local friends, since they have a lot of experience biking and would know what to do if we got into any difficult circumstances. We would probably start from the bike trails at a riverside park in Taipei, and make our way along the west coast heading south, since I heard that there are some new trails going that way. Eventually, we could bike all the way to Gao Xiong and then start heading toward the east coast, going through Tai D**g and Hualian. It would probably be best to go this time of year, in November or December, since it’s not too hot and it doesn’t rain a lot. Going by bicycle would be more fun than by car, and it would be great exercise, a real challenge. I’d really like to get to experience the different areas of Taiwan on a personal level, so this would be a great opportunity.
(Vocabulary: bike trail, riverside (park), head (direction) )
