On May 18th, students, faculty, and staff from across the International College (and across the globe!) came together to celebrate Cultural Day. This year, the festivities centered around a showcase, where invitees were welcome to share songs, dances, dishes, and outfits that reflected their connection to their homes. Special attendees including Professor Yi-Chun Chin of GUPS, Chiara Labanti of Electrical Engineering, and our very own MPB Director Ko came to join the festivities. The IC Salon was filled with students in colorful costumes, the sound of music and laughter, and the scent of baked goods from campus’ very own Liyang Bakery.
After the guests were welcomed and refreshments were served, Mohammed, an MPB student from Tanzania taught a welcoming song specially translated into English and Swahili. Emilia, a graduating MPB student from the United States, lead the party in working through a New York Times crossword puzzle. Ricky, another graduating MPB student from Haiti shared a presentation introducing his country, from its history to cuisine, even introducing a Haitian restaurant in Taipei! Filip, a first year GUPS student from Macedonia got the room up and moving by teaching a traditional Macedonian dance. Inspired by Filip’s dance, two students from Mexico, Carolina from MPB and Misael from Smart MHI, shared a Mexican line dance. Attendees danced up until the very end of the event, reflecting the diverse, energetic, and cheerful people that make the International College so special.
From all of us at the IC, we sincerely wish you a strong end of the school year. 加油!

The “Hands-on Paiwan Glass Bead Bracelet Workshop” took place on April 27th from 3 to 5 p.m. at the International College Salon in the Zonghe Lecture Building. By combining an engaging handmade process with local cultural interaction, the workshop aimed to help students and faculty from the International College explore diverse aspects of Taiwanese culture, particularly the Indigenous culture which is rarely showcased.
The activity was organized by Wei Ti (gayagay valjius), a research assistant from the Master Program in Global ATGS. Drawing from her Taiwanese Indigenous descent, she shared the artistry of “glass beads”, a renowned cultural symbol of the Paiwan people. Throughout the workshop, the presenter provided deep insights into Indigenous culture and the current social situation, while integrating online interactive games and basic Paiwan language instruction to enhance engagement.
During the weaving session, participants showed great interest in the symbolism behind each bead pattern. From selecting the beads based on their meanings to the final weaving, students not only gained a sense of achievement, but also infused their creations with personal wishes. For instance, one of the most popular choices was “the Bead of the Chrysalis” (“marutjamulang” in the Paiwan language), which represents agility, excellence, a pioneering spirit, and prosperity.
The workshop attracted more than twenty participants, including students and faculty from the five programs within the International College, with SMART MHI forming the largest group. Feedback indicated that participants were most impressed by the novel experience of the weaving process. Through these interactive sessions, we hope to inspire the participants to continue their journey of exploring Indigenous culture after the workshop.

Our one-day cultural trip with STIPT students has come to a wonderful and memorable end!
The day began with excitement as we gathered at NTU and set off together, ready to explore a different side of Taiwan. Our first stop brought us into the world of traditional craftsmanship, where students experienced hands-on paper-making at the Suho Memorial Paper Museum. From learning about the history of paper to creating their own unique pieces, it was a meaningful introduction to Taiwan’s cultural heritage.
We then continued the journey with a classic Taiwanese "Re Chao" lunch, where everyone shared a variety of local dishes. It was not only a chance to taste authentic flavors, but also a moment for students to bond, chat, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Taiwanese dining culture.
In the afternoon, although we were unable to take the Maokong Gondola due to maintenance, the experience of walking up the steps to Zhinan Temple in the rain turned out to be a special and memorable part of the day. It gave us a different perspective of the journey, and we were still able to enjoy the beautiful views of Taipei’s cityscape and surrounding mountains. The visit to Zhinan Temple offered a peaceful and scenic environment, allowing students to experience both the spiritual and natural beauty of the area.
Throughout the day, what stood out the most was not just the places we visited, but the connections that were built. Students from different backgrounds came together, shared stories, supported one another, and created lasting memories.
Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm, cooperation, and positive energy — it truly made the trip smooth, enjoyable, and full of warmth.
We hope this experience has given you a deeper appreciation of Taiwanese culture, as well as a meaningful chapter in your journey here. We look forward to welcoming you to more activities in the future!

To enhance program visibility, National Taiwan University International College set up a booth to hold the program promotion event at Lu-Ming Square from March 12-13. Through this event, students could get firsthand information and explore further studies at the International College.
Starting with the interactive game “Global ATGS Career Analysis: Design your Future Blueprint!”, students could gain an initial understanding of the Master Program in Global ATGS by drawing fortune cards. As each card represents a specific career path and its related courses or features of the program, students felt a strong resonance with their future career prospects. This highlight also sparked their curiosity to learn more about the program.
We also invited current International College students to serve as program ambassadors, representing four master’s programs (Global ATGS, MPB, Smart MHI, MDR3) and one bachelor’s program (GUPS). Through their detailed introductions and warm interactions with the participants, visitors were highly impressed, which deepened their interest in the programs.
During the event, we attracted students from Germany, the USA, Thailand, and beyond, including undergraduate exchange students. Participants were satisfied with the overall experience and left their feedback through our Google Form. Furthermore, the Associate Dean visited the booth to offer support and gave highly positive remarks about the event’s success.

Our student was recently interviewed by the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia, sharing their academic journey and cultural experiences at National Taiwan University (NTU).
The student joined NTU's Global Undergraduate Program in Semiconductors in 2024, a fully English-taught program focused on semiconductor technology and international talent development. The journey to Taiwan began with a three-month internship through the Asia New Zealand Foundation, which inspired the decision to pursue full-time studies in Taipei.
While studying in Taiwan has presented challenges such as adapting to a new academic environment, culture, and language, the student has embraced these experiences as valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth. In addition to academics, the student participated in several international and professional programs, gaining practical experience and broader insight into Taiwan's role in the global semiconductor industry.

On December 23rd, we celebrated the MPB Christmas Party at the IC Salon organized by first year MPB students. The event had students from different departments and academic years within the International College. Before the event began, the IC Salon was decorated with festive decorations, including colorful balloons, streamers, and a variety of Christmas ornaments. A special photo area, set up featuring a large star as the centerpiece, allowing attendees to take memorable photos was a huge hit. To ensure that everyone felt included and well-fed, we provided a wide variety of food and drink options that catered to different nationalities and dietary needs. Vegetarian, vegan, and no-pork dishes were available, along with a generous spread of desserts. While enjoying the food, participants from different departments and years mingled and got to know each other, creating a friendly and welcoming environment.
After the meal, we kicked off our event activities with a fun and engaging Kahoot quiz featuring trivia about Taiwan and courses offered from the Masters Program in Biodiversity. The top three winners received gingerbread house kits as prizes. Following the quiz, we held a lively team-building game in which pairs danced around a paper napkin, then had to balance on it when the music stopped. This game was filled with energy, laughter, and lots of excitement, becoming one of the highlights of the evening. Winning teams were awarded small gifts prepared by the event hosts. Throughout the night, the IC Salon was filled with joy, laughter, and a strong sense of togetherness. The warm and cheerful atmosphere helped foster meaningful conversations and new friendships among participants from different backgrounds. As the evening came to a close, it was clear that the MPB Christmas Party was not only a fun holiday celebration, but also a wonderful opportunity for students to relax, bond, and feel a sense of community within the International College after the finals week.
From all of us at MPB, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄
