Slush GIA X ICSB Academy 2018 27/07/2018

June 26th, 2018: ICSB Academy has partnered with Slush for the second year in a row to host a pitch competition that engages and promotes local entrepreneurs from the different countries ICSB Academy visits each year. Local startups compete for the chance to fly to Helsinki and participate in a program that includes online pre-event coaching and Helsinki BootCamp program culminating the world's leading startup event- Slush. In addition, because of this partnership ICSB Academy students and World Congress attendees had the opportunity to witness a new venture pitch competition and engage with the local entrepreneurs.

Slush GIA is a program created in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and other global partners. The purpose is to support impact-driven startups and showcase the exciting business opportunities in emerging markets, which are also vital for implementing the Agenda 2030. In addition, the program focuses on strengthening the networks between the impact actors, engaging the Nordic community with the global impact entrepreneurs, and enhancing the mobilization of capital towards impactful business.

At Slush GIA X ICSB Academy 2018, Dr. Olli Vuola, Executive Director of Aalto Ventures Program in Finland provided an intro to Slush before pitch competition participants took the stage. Dr. Vuola has played an integral role in creating the partnership between ICSB Academy and Slush. Slush GIA is a program created in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and other global partners. "Sell the Idea" Day 2 ICSB Academy 2018 26/07/2018

June 25th, 2018: The second day of the Academy was centered around how entrepreneurs “Sell the Idea.” The days lessons began with with “Impressions from Silicon Valley” with Dr. Walter Ruda. Then Professor Neil Feinstein took the stage with “Something to Talk About,” Social Media and Entrepreneurship including a video from Dr. Jorge Fresneda Fernandez. Before visits to local co-working spaces Dr. Eric Liguori taught a module on “Entrepreneurial Sales,” including lessons from his own entrepreneurial experiences. Students visited 2 co-working spaces on the second day of the Academy CLBC and Star Rocket in Tapiei, Taiwan.

After a full day of classes, Associate Dean and Academy Director Dr. Luca Iandoli prepped Slush GIA pitch judges for the pitch competition to follow as St. John University's delegation including Professor Neil Feinstein and Assistant Dean Kevin James took photos with students.

"Nuts and Bolts" Day 3 ICSB Academy 2018 25/07/2018

June 26th, 2018: Day 3 of ICSB Academy began with Veera Lehmonen from Cuckoo and the hard lessons learned as an Entrepreneur. Veera Lehmonen and Linda Kuula ended Veera’s talk with a Cuckoo workout session. Assistant Dean, Kevin James gave a lesson on crafting an effective elevator pitch that included interactive mentoring sessions with other global faculty. Dr. Alex DeNoble then taught a module on Evidence-Based Entrepreneurship where he provided a step by step example of how entrepreneurs often need to pivot, sometimes multiple times, before finding their niche from which to grow. After lunch, Dr. Jean-Francios Oullet taught a module on bootstrapping and funding not only from a rigorous academic background but also from that of a tried and true entrepreneur.

"Sell the Idea" Day 2 ICSB Academy 2018 24/07/2018

Students visited 2 co-working spaces on the second day of ICSB Academy 2018. CLBC and Star Rocket in Tapiei, Taiwan hosted sessions for Academy students where they learned how the spaces are managed, the types of businesses that reside there and what coworking spaces offer entrepreneurs in general.

Work-out breaks throughout the 2018 Academy were provided by Veera Lehmonen and Linda Kuula from Cuckoo Workout, a Finnish Startup that features quick and easy exercises that can be done in a small work area to encourage employee well-being.

"Build Your Idea" ICSB 2018 Academy Day 1 23/07/2018

On day one of the Academy, the first module was taught by Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy on Creativity and Innovation. The workshop included a paper airplane exercise that got students to start thinking like entrepreneurs, assess team skills and begin prototyping.

June 24th, 2018: Day 1 of the ICSB Academy was time to “Build Your Idea,” for the students. The first module was taught by Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy on Creativity and Innovation. The Module included a paper airplane exercise that got students to start thinking like entrepreneurs, asses team skills, and prototype. Next was a module from Dr. Cesar Bandera on Building the Business Module Canvas. After lunch students learned “Zen and the Art of Customer Discovery,” with Dr. Luca Iandoli, ICSB Academy Director. Dr. Ewald Mittlestead taught students what to do, “When Life Gives You Lemons,” with an Effectuation Workshop. The Day ended with a “Learn from Mistakes Module,” with stories from our panel of international entrepreneurs.
