Wickerwork is another interesting and widely utilized method of creating “products of need” among the Taiwanese indigenous people. Nearly all indigenous tribes, most notably the Kavalan, Atayal, Paiwan, Amis and Puyuma people, practice the art of wickery. The primary material used for this would be rattan or bamboo, however there are slight variations of materials when looking at the different indigenous tribes. Interestingly, traditionally, mostly the men would do the wickerwork while the women more focused on weaving. The product of their wickerwork was very varied and depended on what was currently needed, be it a fish basket or a regular container to store food. Next to its practical use, wickerwork also holds a deep cultural meaning, as it represents the spirit of their ancestors and they get to pass on their knowlege down generations.

籐編是臺灣原住民族中另一種有趣且被廣泛使用的製作「生活所需之物」的方法。幾乎所有原住民族群都從事籐編工藝，其中最著名的包括噶瑪蘭族、泰雅族、排灣族、阿美族以及卑南族。這項工藝主要使用的材料是籐或竹，不過在不同族群之間，材料的使用仍存在些微差異。

有趣的是，傳統上多半由男性負責進行籐編，而女性則較專注於織布。籐編製品的種類非常多樣，並取決於當時的需求，無論是魚簍或是用來儲存食物的一般容器。

除了其實用性之外，籐編也具有深厚的文化意義，因為它象徵著祖先的精神，並且讓他們得以將知識一代一代地傳承下去。

We welcome you to our new Exhibition "Looking Back on a Century, Moving Towards the Next Century - The Walo Saisiyat Weavers´ Journey of Clothing Revitalization".
This Museum Exhibition is primarily about the weaving and respectively clothing of the Saisiyat People. It showcases a vast collection of garments, representing not simply clothing something to wear, but as an important part of Saisiyat culture and their significance in carrying ethnic identity and cultural traits. Not only that, a specific focus has also been put on the "weavers" and their essential role when it comes to the indigenous peoples´culture, as in learning and teaching the craft of weaving act as preservers of Knowledge and culture.

The Atayal people are one of the largest indigenous groups in Taiwan, with currently over 90.000 Atayal people as documented by the Council of Indigenous People Taiwan.
Apart from things such as their social systems and their practice of facial tattoos, the Atayal people are also well known for their weaving culture, which is a practice deeply rooted in their social and cultural structure.
Only the women practice weaving and this skill is passed down from generation to generation, as weaving is more than just a craft, it essentially creates the social status of an Atayal woman.
Ramie fibers are the primary material for weaving. As weaving follows a multitude of strict, geometric patterns, these also account for certain symbolism. A good example would be the “classic” rhomboid pattern, which is to symbolize the eyes of their ancestors.

泰雅族是台灣最大的原住民族群之一，根據原住民族委員會的紀錄，目前泰雅族人口已超過 90,000 人。
除了社會制度和紋面習俗外，泰雅族也以其織布文化聞名，這是一項深深植根於其社會與文化結構中的傳統。
只有女性從事織布，且這項技能代代相傳，因為織布不僅僅是一門工藝，它實質上造就了泰雅族女性的社會地位。
苧麻纖維是織布的主要材料。由於織布遵循許多嚴格的幾何圖案，這些圖案也代表了特定的象徵意義。一個典型的例子就是「經典」的菱形紋，它象徵著祖先的眼睛（祖靈之眼）。

《從百年回望，走向下一個百年》— Walo 賽夏織女的服飾復振之路特展開幕

由順益台灣原住民博物館主辦之「2026 部落特展」，於 2026 年 4 月 10 日正式開幕。
前文建會陳郁秀主委、故宮博物院蕭宗煌院長、南庄鄉羅春蓮鄉長、新北市原民局Siku Yaway局長、北市府原民會李菊妹副主委、國立原住民族博物館籌備處謝美蘭主任等貴賓及南庄鄉東河國小全體師生均到場並在館前演出「賽夏組曲」。
本次展覽以賽夏族服飾為核心，透過織女群體的學習與實踐，呈現一段跨越歷史斷裂、重新織回文化記憶的復振歷程。
展覽由策展人林淑莉策劃，攜手苗栗南庄東河部落 13 位織女共同參與，以「從百年回望，走向下一個百年」為主軸，回應 2016 年「藏藝百年」展覽之後，賽夏族服飾文化在當代持續推進的關鍵十年。

再次迎向風華：從百年回望，走向下一個百年
自 2016 年「藏藝百年──尋回賽夏百年服飾風華特展」掀起一場從紋線到歷史的深刻對話後，轉眼已近十年。那一次的回望，讓我們重新凝視被時間覆蓋的織物與圖紋，也逐漸理解——賽夏族服飾從來不是靜止的文化標本，而是承載著記憶、情感與生活智慧，在世代之間流動的生命痕跡。
十年後的今天，我們再次回到這個起點，但方向已不再只是「尋回」。在全球快速變遷與文化轉型的脈絡之中，賽夏織藝正走向另一個階段——一條同時面向祖先，也面向未來的路。本次展覽關注的，不僅是服飾的形式與工藝之美，更是織女的長時間勞動、返鄉青年的投入、文化工作者的陪伴，以及部落在傳統與創新之間所展開的實踐歷程。
2026 年，我們將再次相聚於順益台灣原住民博物館。透過這場特展，看見賽夏族的色線如何在當代被重新編織；看見服飾如何從祭儀、家族與日常生活中生成；也看見創新如何在理解與尊重之中生長、延續。
更重要的是，我們將一同看見——文化之所以長存，從來不只是被保存，而是有人持續以雙手、以身體、以生活，將它一線一線地織下去。
