🧬 Uncovering What Drives Oral Cancer to Spread

Researchers from TMU’s College of Oral Medicine have identified CXCL8 as a key driver of oral cancer metastasis, revealing how this inflammation-related molecule helps cancer cells invade surrounding tissues and spread to lymph nodes.

Importantly, blocking CXCL8-related signaling reduced lymph node metastasis in preclinical models, pointing to its potential as both a biomarker and a future therapeutic target.🎯

What if repairing the heart doesn’t require transplanting living cells?💭

A recent review led by researchers from TMU’s College of Biomedical Engineering explores a new generation of cell-free approaches to heart repair, including biomaterials, platelet-derived extracellular vesicles, and synthetic nanocarriers.

Beyond their therapeutic potential, these strategies could help overcome one of regenerative medicine’s biggest challenges: developing treatments that are scalable, consistent, and practical for clinical use.

🇬🇧🎊 TMU Alumna Yun-Chun Huang Named a Chevening Scholar

TMU alumna Yun-Chun (Chloe) Huang has been selected for the Chevening Scholarship and will pursue an MSc in Clinical Drug Development at University College London (UCL).

With a background spanning clinical pharmacy and translational clinical research, she is focused on a question central to healthcare innovation: how can scientific discoveries be translated into meaningful benefits for patients?💭

At UCL, she plans to deepen her expertise in clinical development, evidence generation, and regulatory science, while gaining insights into how different healthcare systems evaluate evidence and translate innovation into safe, effective, and accessible treatments.

Her journey reflects the value of international learning and knowledge exchange in developing healthcare professionals who can connect research, evidence, and clinical practice across borders—and ultimately bring innovation closer to the patients it is meant to serve.🩺

今天要分享今年度的英國政府碩士獎學金得主黃韻純

黃韻純始終相信,醫療創新的真正價值不在於實驗室中誕生了多少科學發現,而在於這些發現最終為病人帶來了多少改變。這份信念貫穿了她從臨床藥學到轉譯臨床研究的每一段職涯歷程,也持續形塑著她對未來的願景。

正是這份體悟,促使黃韻純決定前往英國倫敦大學學院 University College London UCL 攻讀臨床藥物開發碩士(MSc in Clinical Drug Development)。她期望深化自己在臨床開發、證據生成(evidence generation)與法規科學(regulatory science)等領域的專業,同時深入了解不同醫療體系如何將科學創新轉譯為安全、有效且可近的治療方案。身為今年度 Chevening 英國政府碩士獎學金得主,黃韻純將加入來自世界各地、致力於解決全球挑戰的龐大Chevening未來領袖社群網絡。她希望透過跨領域與跨文化的交流,學習不同國家的醫療體系如何生成、評估並運用臨床證據,以改善病人的健康成果,促進跨國合作與知識交流。

明年完成學業返台後,黃韻純也希望串聯臨床開發(Clinical Development)、真實世界證據(Real-World Evidence, RWE)與醫療決策(Healthcare Decision-making),加速創新療法進入臨床照護,讓更多病人能及時受惠。她始終相信,唯有當科學發現真正抵達它所服務的人們時,醫療創新才真正完成其使命。

🦠🪼 A marine bacterial enzyme is opening new possibilities for bioactive compound discovery.

Researchers from TMU’s College of Medical Science and Technology have uncovered the catalytic potential of HapC, an enzyme from the marine bacterium Hahella chejuensis.

The study found that HapC can produce a wider range of prodiginine compounds than previously understood, including two analogs not previously produced by prodigiosin-forming enzymes.

By revealing how this flexible enzyme works, the findings could help researchers expand natural compound libraries and explore future applications in medicine, biotechnology, and agriculture.
