Acta Academy

As we continue to grow with Acta, we’ve come to understand there are 2 sides to our offerings and programming: Academy and Society. Academy serves our students and families with classes like Critical Reading and Creative Writing, it's a space for rigorous academic learning and mastery. Society is where we can invite our larger community to come learn, create, and enjoy the experiences at Acta. In the end, both serve Acta’s philosophy of play at the center of learning and life! We hope this distinction helps our audience differentiate which programs and events are best suited for them.

Thank you for following along our journey! We love experimenting and learning with this community, and are grateful for all the support!

隨著 Acta 持續成長，我們逐漸意識到我們的課程與活動可以分為兩大方向：學院（Academy）與生活圈（Society）。
學院Academy服務我們的學生與家長，開設批判性閱讀、創意寫作等課程，是一個追求嚴謹學術學習與深度精進的平台。
生活圈Society則是我們邀請更廣大夥伴前來共同學習、共同創作、共享 Acta 空間的學習空間。
兩者皆貫徹Acta 以「玩」為學習與生活核心的理念！希望這樣的區分，能幫助大家更清楚找到最適合自己的課程與活動。

In this busy world, it's hard to find time to slow down and create. That’s why a big goal of ours this year is to do more creative events for our community, where we could come together and have a moment to ourselves. Our first Sip & Paint was everything I hoped for! “Romance del Diablo” – an evocative modern dance performance directed by Hsin Huei Hung, performed by Wally Kao and Tzu Yang Lee, with the tango band Ognat Tango.

Please enjoy this performance from the Ognat Tango concert in mid-August. So much hardwork and heart went into this by the musicians and performers and there is a deep passion and heartbreak communicated in the performance. Our team at Acta, Lisa and Kevin, did a great job in filming the performance and trying new experimental ways to capture the full range of movement & feeling.

“Romance Del Diablo” 惡魔的浪漫是一支情感強烈的現代舞表演，由洪信惠執導，高華麗和李梓揚演出，探戈樂團Ognat Tango現場演奏。

在這場精心打造的演出中，Ognat Tango和演員們傳達了不見底的熱情和刺骨的心痛。Acta的Lisa和Kevin在這次演出中，更透過實驗性的攝影手法，盡全力捕捉演員們在現場舞台上的動作和情感。

去年八月，Acta 共同創辦人 Kevin 與 Caroline 在歐華酒店舉辦了第七屆的「Interesting People」派對！

這場活動的精髓在於將有趣的人們聚集在一起，並在他們相遇時碰撞出有趣的火花。起初只是一個認識新朋友的社會實驗，如今已演變成一場充滿緣分的漩渦——多年來，我們結識了如此多珍貴的朋友與合作夥伴。今年感覺格外具有意義，因為參加活動的大多數人對我們兩位主辦人來說都是陌生面孔——這場活動已經超越了我們自身的圈子，向外延伸。


這一次的活動能夠實現必須要感謝我們的朋友與共同籌辦者，若沒有大家一起將是不可能實現的！

——感謝 Jared 提供場地，感謝 Jessie 協助設計與統籌，感謝 Steven 幫助我們進行音樂設置與執行，感謝 Mona 為今年的主題繪製了一幅精彩的海報，感謝 DJ Roger 及其友人帶來美妙的氛圍，感謝 Will 擔任當天的調酒師，也感謝 Lisa 負責攝影並在每一步都給予我們支持（她參與了每一屆的Interesting People！）。感謝所有新舊朋友們持續到來並閃耀光芒，是你們讓這場活動如此值得！

Last year in August, Acta co-founders Kevin and Caroline, hosted the 7th Interesting People party at the Riviera Hotel!

The essence of the event is to bring people together and see what interesting things happen when they mix. What started as a way to meet new people has grown into a whirlpool of kismet, as we have connected with so many dear friends and collaborators throughout the years. This year felt especially monumental as the majority of the people who came to the event were unfamiliar to us – the event has grown beyond our own reach.

This would not have been possible without our friends and co-orgnanizers – thank you to Jared for providing the space, to Jessie for helping with design and organizing, to Steven for helping us with music set up and ex*****on, to Mona for drawing an amazing poster for our theme this year, to DJ Roger and friends for providing the vibes, to Will for being our bartender this year, and to Lisa for videography and always supporting us every step of the way (she has helped with every single Interesting People Party!). Thank you to all our old friends and new who continue to show up and shine brightly, you make this event worth it!

Join our founders, Kevin and Caroline, for a reflection on 2025 at Acta! We’ve had an amazing year watching magic happen in every synchronicity, as more friends and creatives have answered the call to use the space as their canvas!

With our learning from the last two years of Acta, we’re excited to introduce Acta Society for our adult learners. This will be for our social events, concerts, galleries, and more! This is just the beginning of our evolution, and we’re excited to invite you along on our journey.

隨著藝術家林賢珠在台灣的第二次個展圓滿落幕，讓我們一起回顧籌備的開始吧！
進入這次展覽，我們對工作流程更加熟悉，也設定了比去年更遠大的目標。從二月在老師的工作室進行拍照與紀錄開始，到八月設計畫冊和周邊商品，再到十一月確認老師能展出的畫作，我們珍惜實現每一個願景的時刻。
感謝老師的信任，任由我們為她籌辦這次展覽。我們(Kevin與Caroline)非常感激您,以及您為我們個人和ACTA所帶來的成長。特別感謝我們的同事、攝影師、也是萬能女超人的Lisa，她一直是幕後最大的小幫手。我們也要感謝Ian，在百忙之中抽空來幫我們顧展覽。
最重要的是，感謝每一位遠道而來，欣賞老師作品的朋友們，感謝您們的參觀、分享、支持、與祝福！我們聽到了好多的故事，有歡笑也有感動。這些時刻正是激勵我們一次又一次舉辦展覽的動力。

As we conclude Artist Hyunju’s 2nd Solo Exhibition at Acta, let’s take a look back to the beginning preparation!

Going into this exhibition, we were more familiar with the flow of the work and had big goals to improve upon from last year. Starting with taking photos in February in Ms. Hyunju’s art studio, designing the art book and merchandise in August, and asking Hyunju if we could exhibit even MORE paintings in November, we've cherished every moment of bringing this vision to life together.

Thank you to Hyunju for trusting and believing in us to put together this exhibition for a second time. We (Kevin & Caroline) are so grateful to you, and your part in our journey as individuals and as Acta. A big shoutout to our co-worker, videographer, and every-job-woman, Lisa, who has been one of the biggest supporters and help behind the scenes. We also want to thank our friend Ian, who volunteered his time to run the gallery when we were busy (or needed to rest for a day!). Thank you to all the friends who have visited, helped us out, and supported this exhibition.

Most of all, thank you to each and every guest that has come to see Hyunju’s art. We appreciate that you made the time to come – whether it was for 5 minutes or 2 hours. We got to hear so many of your stories, we laughed together and cried together. These moments are what motivate us to do this exhibition, and to keep trying, again and again.

Hyunju’s art holds layers of details and stories. Between the curved buildings and enormous trees, we have the space to create meaning for the characters, and ultimately for ourselves. This conversation with the art has been the most rewarding for us throughout the exhibition, and we invite you to learn the stories behind the painting more intimately with us!

Hyunju’s Solo Art Exhibition has 2 weeks left! Please come by to see the multi-dimensional art and discover the many stories at the gallery. The exhibition is open on Wednesday-Sunday, 1pm-7pm.

With Hyunju’s art, it's easy to get lost in the details of each piece. Noticing the texture of her buildings which she creates by mixing sand with paint, the ridges on the roofs, and trying to find where she has hidden the goose – the protagonists of her paintings – lets us dive deeper into her works. When combined all together, each piece is multi-textured and layered with meanings and experiences.

This year’s exhibition features: "Please, Let's Play! Collection of Works by Lim Hyun-joo" — an art book specially launched for Ms. Lim Hyunju's second solo exhibition, documented and edited by Acta founders Kevin and Caro! Spanning over 200 pages and featuring more than 100 works, this is Ms. Lim's largest and most comprehensive collection to date!

Join us for a deep dive into the story behind Hyunju’s painting, “I don’t want to sleep! I scream every night!”

This painting has brought so much laughter to all those at the exhibition this year. Whether we see ourselves as the parents or the child, or both, this scenario is an extremely relatable feeling! But even when we feel disharmonious in our relationships, Hyunju shows through this painting how we are actually in the delicate cycle of finding harmony with life and the everyday. Harmony is not about perfection, it's actually a process.
